i emailed you, but i am worried that it sent my elite explorer address as my return address. i don't even know how to use that. either dswilso@imap2.asu.edu or dswilso@asu.edu one of those should work.
okay, so after reading this thread I know what brand NOT to buy.....sorry your lights turned out so dim, Alpha!
PS-I'm reading thru this thread and laughing 'cuz you and I have so much in common (female, work in delivery business, black 98 Sport Explorers, you're only a year older than me.....) Every time I think I've seen everything on this site I get thrown for another loop! lol
New neon question, just got a set of streetglow 9" chrome series minis for under my dash. I like the idea of having them come on when my drive/headlights are turned on. Or do you think it's better to have them on their own independant switch? Also I was wondering...I have my indiglo gauges tapped into the power wire on my headlight switch...can I also tap these minis on that same line? How much can you hook up to a small line like that? Do you suggest an inline fuse? If so what amp?
I would run a 10 gauge wire directly from your battery through your firewall. That way, if you ever add more neons, you have a nice thick power supply wire.
The chrome 9" minis are not as bright as the regular 9" minis, so i have heard from experience.
As for inline fuses...it depends. For all my neons, i have a 30 amp fuse about a foot away from my battery.
Always have the fuse in your engine compartment. That way, if theres every any crossed wires, your wires will be safe and the fuse will blow faster.
I would only put in like a 5 amp fuse for your car.
As for their own swtich, yah, i would recomend doing that. You can always have them on both things (be able to have them on only with your headlights, or without haveing your headlights on). Ya knoa?
Plan ahead, if you know your going to be adding more neon or any other accessory item besides the minis, look into getting one of these or something similar. The one pictured is an fused circuit panel with 6 circuits.
What you would do is run a single wire straight from the battery ( 10 gauge should be plenty ) with an in-line 30 amp fuse to this fuse panel and then add up to 6 accessories all of which would be protected be an independent fuse. If you think you'll need more than 6 they have the following sizes: 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 18 circuits. By doing it this way you don't have to look towards the factory wiring for a source of power and you only have to run one larger wire from the battery instead of a bunch of smaller ones.
I would go with Carl's suggestion about using the switch, personally I don't like things to come on with out having a way to turn them off. You could always use a relay and have them come on automatically with you lights but have the switch to turn them off when ever you want.
Sounds good to me, I thought the only difference between these chrom minis and reg. are the chrome ends. hence the name chrome series. I'm sure they will be great regardless. Do you have a30 ampo fuse because you have more neon? I plan to have alot of neon so Im sure I will eventually need a larger fuse no?
Ok as much as I hate to admit when I'm wrong. I definatley notice a difference between the streetglow 9" chrome and the 9" regular neons. I know this because I broke a chrome neon (within hours of receiving it) and got a regular set...I used 1 chrome and 1 regular and I'll be damned the regular one was brighter. So now I'm using the regular set under the driver and pass. dash. Don't get me wrong the chrome minis are sweet, especially if you have them where they will be showing. But there is a noticeable difference in brightness. BMXboy I will never doubt you again.
For the record friends...I repeat...the regular 9" minis ARE brighter than the 9" chrome minis....weird because the only difference is supposed to be the end material.
how exactly did you mount that light behind the grille??
i have one on behind my grille but it moves quite a bit. I used L-Bracket and Flat Bracket combine with C-Clamps but it swings from side to side.
letting me know exactly how you did it would be greatly appreciated.

Hehe, its ok...if you go over to Street Glow's Site...im the # 1 poster and most well known guy there I know more about neons than just about anyone around
Dossler2002 - I mounted a 30" gold series replacement neon behind my grill. Because i have the billet aluminum grill, i was able to drill two holes, front and bottome of the middle part of my factory grill. I then just used two wire ties to hold the neon inplace. My factory grill had a plastic part behind it, that the neon slides under...and in actuality, the Gold Seris neons has a very nice, snug fit. If you need pic's i'll take some for you
BMXBOY:
thanks alot - i think i get the idea now, but if you could please post some pics because I don't think i really have the concept of the mounting on the grille part.
Im to lazy to re-read the posts...but are you talking about that for neons?
If so...thats a bit pricy for a fuse block..you can buy some at radio shack (cheap ones..but they do the trick)
Or you can just have 1 big fuse right by your battery (like me...less than 18" away from bat) to control power to all your neons....i had a few fuses before, controling various neons, but it becasem a hassle
