You'd need to get the vehicle in 2wd and put some power to those wheels while still keep still. I prefer power braking with my AWD than 2wd burnouts but that's just me.

2wd

Hold the brake, and give it enough gas to break the wheels loose and hold a consistant throttle. I don't think I'd feel comfortable doing it with IRS. (Personal Opinion) [Do you have IRS] ?

Shifter in first, hold the brakes somewhat firm and stab the gas:D You can slowly ease up on the brakes to do a slow roll out. Also go through the water to make it easier and don't bounce off the rev limiter and look like a tard;). Here is a vid I did of mine on a WINDY day, ignore me running.

Edit- Take out your speakers and anything heavy you don't need(spare tire, jack, etc) You could be like me and remove all the seats or be like techieman33 and nearly gut the whole thing:D Weight is horsepower, so less weight=more power!

yeah its irs its a 3rd gen

honestly i don't see a point in doing a burn out to "heat up" your tires unless you are running slicks. when i used to run at the track street tires just hold water in the treads and give you a worse traction. i would just go around the wet pad and take off with by pre-loading it. brake with one foot and give it enough gas to squat the rear or feel it pulling

It depends on the tires, with my toyo's there is a big difference between burnout and no burnout. But if the truck in question is AWD, or auto 4wd just leave it like that and traction won't be a problem.

The only reason I started doing burnouts is because when I lined up with Eric(techieman33) he would do this nice burnout and get sideways, when I would just pull up to the lights looking "stockish". So I though I would feel more at home and do a nice little smokeshow! Plus, I am going to have to do some big burnouts this summer to make it difficult for him to see the tree so that his reaction time is poop and I can beat him if he does some more mods:D

haha ok i guess that works too. i like doing burn outs just for fun every once in a while but the mountaineer hasn't seen one yet. maybe after the SAS with 4.56 gears i'll light up the 35s so i can get some 38s

in my old xlt with its crappy tires, all i had to do was floor it off the line, did it in a street race with a dodge dakota (take a stab at who won, hit: it was a ford) and did a nice steady burn out for like 5 seconds before any traction. :D

if you spun the tires for 5 seconds just from flooring it you either have the most powerful explorer ever, or the roads were wet.

the bricks they use in the road here at crosswalks etc. are absolutely terrible for traction, but great for wanna-be race car fun :D

my 94 ex with new general graber at2 can break the tires loose with no problem on dry pavement. most of the time with no brakes. but i do have a few mods to the engine. i dont get the one wheel wonder peel either... both tires. kinda sucks in the rain tho. cant go anywhere without slipin or i just have to drive like a grandpa.

mine will light the tire up at 40...on wet roads

I need to do as many burnouts as i can so i can wear out these yoko's and get some dam 32's (32's fit a 3rd gen with no lift right? :O )

i usually do 'em like this

or like this

or if you REALLY want to roast you're tires, hold you're left foot on the brake while flooring it for a few seconds before you let up. (this is called power-breaking) like this.
