I spilled a little gear oil in the back of my truck about 2 mo. ago, and it still stinks in there. I tried Fabreeze and it did nothing. I don't wanna take the carpet out, but it gets really bad when it gets hot in the truck.

What can I do?:( there are no stains though.

I would shampoo the carpets with a lot of a good degreaser mixed into the shampoo. I would also put some Arm-N-Hammer stuff under the carpet, when I spilled gas in my Jeep it worked wonders.

Gear oil? Gag! That is one awful smell!

If the smell has been there that long, you're probably gonna have to take the carpet out. It's probably the oil that soaked into the pad that is causing the smell.

There's only a couple of clips holding the carpet to the flaps behind the seats and then a couple under the little plastic piece at the rear of the hatch. After that it'll slide over the flaps and come right out. Once its out you can peel the pad off the carpet and clean it.

Use some of that orange clean stuff and saturate the oiled area. Let that sit a bit then run some low pressure water through the pad to help rinse it out. Reclean your carpet while you're at it. Clean off the metal in the cargo area too.

The smell has probably soaked into everything in the interior, so Febreeze the entire interior again (roofliner and everything) and make sure the smell is gone.

Keep recleaning the carpet and pad while it is out of the vehicle until the smell is gone. You might want to Febreeze it too before you put it back in because that orange smell can be pretty strong too.

I don't believe that Febreeze will work on oily/greasy substances. I would try some good old Simple Green(test for colorfastnes first though). Just let it soak in, and then use a carpet cleaner to clean it all up. Taking the carpet out may be the easiest route, then you can rinse whatever cleaner you use out easier. I have had no luck with that Orange Clean stuff, but it does smell better than Simple Green.

You might benefit on using one of these Husky Liners in the future. This saved me quite a few times.

KICK HER OUT, oh you said "stench" - nevermind

Dolphan, you had the same idea I had reading the heading. I thought "Divorse the wench".

grease cutter

I used Pine-sol (and water) on all of my carpeting last year after I bought my X. Carpets, fabric seats, and seat belts look brand new after using Pine-sol and a brush for deep thorough cleaning.

I brushed it into the material and then used a towel and rinse water for removing the excess thereafter. I think I repeated the process maybe 2 times on the worst areas. Pinesol does cut grease and oil, doesn't cost much, and smells nice/

PS: I had two other thoughts. I think you would be alright with some TSP mixed with water. You should find it at a hardware store. It will really cut grease like you wouldn't believe...just rinse with water too.

And if it's on the surface use Coleman stove fuel on a cloth. It's relatively odorless and shouldn't hurt carpet at all, kind of like a dry cleaner. I use it on pine sap and on road tar/
