Don't think that would work .. In half way like this I get a bump every time I turn. I'm hoping this will go back in..

You may have screwed up the bolt threads when you first tried to install it. The treads were probably cut into by the brackets... When installing this bolt (with the upper RA bolt loose) you should be able to use a socket with only mild force to snug it up. If you used more than that then you probably cut a new slanted path for the bolt...

Do you have access to a tap and die set? If so I would re-tap the threads in the beam and chase the bolt threads with a new die...

Do NOT try and torq the bolt in under lots of force..It will problably not work and it will cause more problems when trying to fix later.. The thread you see inside the axle are actually a high grade NUT that has been welded into the inside of the beam. If you screw up these threads badly then it will be a huge PITA to fix..

I tried with the radius arm off completely and still had no luck. Guess I'll see if the shop can fix it (which I doubt).

well they can fix it just be prepared to pay for them to replace that nut thats welded to the thing......eeek

i hope its easy to fix..like mabey u are just coming at it wrong..soething cheap

It seems everything I do to my X always seems backfiring and something ends up getting messed up. I know people with tap and die sets but they're not home. If that's all that needs to be done it shouldn't be too bad.

Well .. I'm back with my Ex and it had nothing done. The guy brought me out to it and told me what would have to be done. This is what he said: I'd need a new radius arm bracket (which I won't, for sure), probably a new bolt (bolt is fine), whatever other parts are needed, and labor. He did an estimate, $297 before parts, with 1 hour labor, and alignment. I know this guy's trying to rip me off so in about an hour I'll have someone over here that may be able to fix it, for free. Since the bolt is in at an angle he assumed the bolt was bent, I told him it wasn't and he sort of just ignored that. I tried to get him to look at it by removing the bolt but he says it's a liability issue so if he would've removed that bolt, they would've had to fix whatever was wrong, no matter what I say.

My God I hope that doesn't happen to me ;)

doubt it....i was doing a 93 in summer 03, and it is a michigan truck, and i was (am) very inexperienced

Take the bolt to a hardware......a good hardware store or anyone that has a tap that will fit the threads on the bolt.

After you get the tap put some motor oil on the tap head and make sure you start the tap straight. DO NOT FORCE the tap at an angle keep it straight and you should be good to go.... depending how many times you tried to force that bolt up in there. But this should save you some money.

Good Luck.

He doesn't have the right size .. thinks he lended it out. I'm getting a set tomorrow for $80, only 2 of the threads are messed up. This should fix it.

Everyone needs a good excuse to get more tools I think I'll go strip something like maybe my gears.........:D

It's fixed! Just needed to be retapped. Very, very easy. Everything's all back together, now I just need an alignment from the new wheels. I'm gonna try and return the tap and die set tomorrow, worth a shot since I won't need it any more. Thanks for all your help everyone!

Cool...I'm glad it worked out... After being re-tapped and with everything loose the install should have been a piece of cake.

Just a thought on this. I have done this on several occassions to fix threads. You can grind off the top few threads and recut a starter and use th bolt. I had to do this to my nephews truck when someone removed the steering link nuts and screwed up several threads. Since a nut was going over it there was no big deal if first few threads were ground off.

It was, I was able to screw the bolt in easily by hand almost all the way.
