2000 exporer sport 4by4.how do i.d the trans?i lost reverse this morning and i,ll need to know what trans i have befor i go looking around .
rather be informed befor i crawl under there.

It has a 5R55E 5 speed automatic.

You might be able to repair it instead of replacing it.

any trans shop you take a vehicle into is not going to do an easy fix for you .if there is an easy fix they sure arent going to tell you .what they will tell you is it needs a total rebuild .this is fact .they are in it for the money .not the easy repair .

Seek, and ye shall find but check out yours first to ensure it wouldn't need something simple.

EDIT: Keep in mind that those transmissions seem to have alot of issues, I do not recommend getting a junkyard unit, but to each his own.

ok 1st gear has no engine braking .so i guess its pretty shot.i got a rebuild estimate of 1600.00
thats for removal,then rebuild,then reinstall. thats the cheapest ive found.

or a guy says he can get me a rebuilt shipped in a crate for a grand .then pay my mechanic like 300.00 for the swap.

oh, the rebuilt for 1600.00 comes with 3 year 30,000
