I have a 96 xlt with v8 and stock everything. I want to put a 4in suspension lift and probobly 32s. I want to know if this lift and tire choice will destroy my milage and driveability of my truck. I drive fast and get terible milage about 10 to 14mpg depending on how/where i am driving. Can anyone estimate what my milage will be after i lift my truck and put on the new tires. Also how is my truck going to do on the dunes of the oregon coast once i am done with it. Does anyone have any better ideas on my lift and tire sizes than what i have said. Also i plan on having the local les shwab instal the lift kit which is their own brand of suspension lift, is that the best idea, the price they said was about $2400 for the whole thing (aproxamatley $100 per wheel, $150 per tire, $300 for instalation of the $1000 lift)

and so i dont need to start another thread my explorer has a white pait job in very good condition and i want to know how much it would cost to have it professionally painted black. and i want a pretty good quality paint job.

It'll drive fine if you change your habits.. Lighten off the skinny pedal, avoid taking off fast. Put it this way, since I put 33s on my truck, I've been getting 15-17 MPG however I did change my driving style. I no longer floor it on take off unless I want to play around. I used to get 14-16 so it really hasn't gone down. Actually having a bigger tire will improve your mileage since the tires isn't doing rotating as fast.

Changing your gear ratio will also improve your gas mileage after the lift. The price you were quoted at seems reasonable for a suspension lift, install and 4 wheels and tires. I would recommend regearing though. And for the paint job, You can get a crappy job done at Maaco for like 300 bucks, but a quality paint job will run in the 1000-2000 range. Good luck.

blee - what are you geared at?

Right now I have 3.73 and its slow as balls.. I will eventually go to 4.10 or 4.56 once I get 35s.

4.10 + 35's = no bueno. Go 4.56

my trucks driveability has been seriously increased with my mods, no BII ever built from the factory handles like this..

Yeah 410 is right. I ran 35's on 4.10's could tolerate it on the street but definately WAYYYYY too high for wheeling
