How fast can you change the plugs on your V6???

You must have a nice garage or work for NASCAR pit crew, it takes me 9 minutes to just clear my garage out to make space and find the jack and or jack stands.

Why do you remove your tire?

I changed plugs 3X on 3 different Explorers and never removed the tire, but I do recall that 1 plug was difficult to reach and get to, and I do not recall which one it was or if I used a jack stand to go underneath to get to it. What I am saying is I don't remember if its the plug closest to the firewall of vehicle or the plug close to the A/C compressor, but do remember there was 1 plug that was hard to reach.

I had todo it twice in the past 2 days. Starting with the tire on, It took me 9.23 minutes to jack it up, remove the tire and change all 6 plugs.

Im not bragging or anything but people always complain it being so hard to change them and its not atall.

with the engine running... 1.4 hours using nothing but pliers and a personal difribrilator

i did mine in 45mins the first time...it was better for me to do from the bottom with the tires removed on most of them..1 or 2 where easyier from the top.

nine minutes to change your plugs?

Gapping them? and applying antiseize to the threads?

it takes me atleast an hour, but i take my time. I try not to rush it, and usually i have a friend standing there conversating with me about something random.

I'd rather take my time and do it right than rush through to set a world record.......

Is it really that hard you need to go slow?,

1.gap plug, intset plug, turn clockwise, apply wires.

not to much to screw up.....

Installing plugs is not hard, but rushing any job usually leads to mistakes. From what you posted at the top, you're talking slightly more than one minute to remove each plug boot, remove the plug, take the new plug out of the box, properly gap it, install the new plug to the proper torque spec, and put the wire back on. Personally, I like to take my time and get the gap and torque right.

Nope, not much to screw up.

I fixed it, thx for the help though guys. turns out I used a gapper that said .55, but was actually about .25.

We all screw up stuff sometimes...it just usually occurs less often if you take your time.

You can easily screw up MAJOR when you rush changing plugs.
The worst would be cross threaded, followed by wrong torque & gap, followed by misrouted wires which can melt and or arc quite easily if they are not routed correctly/well, of course pulling the wire apart is always fun, then thats a run to the auto parts store..... etc

Ever crack the porcelain part of a spark plug, in the block?

Makes ya wish... you were dead haha

no I havent because I have heard all the stories so I am careful.
(knocking on wood)

But I did crack the side of my engine block (4.0L OHV) one time after changing the steering box because I was a retard, the oil pressure fitting it tappered and I attempted to stop a slow oil leak there by tightening it, cracked the block. JB weld held for two years almost! Then I had to swap 4.0L's over a weekend. :P hahaha

About one hour doing it the hard way...

The wires seemed like they were bonded to the plugs because they looked like they haven't been changed in about 10 years...

It took me about 30 minutes to get the wires off...

After that was done everything was fairly easy except for that #3 plug...

Anyway a sideways 6 was the hardest plug change I ever did on a old Celica...

There was like 2 inches of room to work with on the back of the motor...

9.23 minutes.....it takes me at least 20 minutes to find the rachet and all the tools nessesarry.......

After the body lift and headers I lost my mind. #3 is now a piece of cake actually all on the pass side are. The back drivers side and even the other 2 are now a bit of a pain because of the BBK headers.

I know why he had to go so fast. It was winter time and he didn't have a garage to put his truck in. The winters in Canada are no joke!
Just had to throw my 2 cents in.

Do it while you're sitting on the engine with the vehicle stuck in a mud hole and i'll be impressed... :p

ROFL! that was about a month ago, took about an hour I figure, in the dark with questionable tools... too late to save it, but it got me home :o Good thing for the D44 hubs slightly above water!

9.23 huh It takes me longer than that to get motivated.

HAHAHAHAHA! Me too!

Just replaced all 6 and it took 45 minutes for all 6 as well as a complete oil and filter change. The passenger side ones are definitely harder to do, but easier through the wheel well. I did NOT have to remove the wheel either.

I think it took me about 5 minutes last time to change mine. Of course I had the engine hanging from a hoist. :D

I'm going on a week and still haven't found the motivation.
