I have had my '02 Sport for about two months now, and I would like to protect that black paint as soon as I can. But I have heard that you should wait a while because the paint hasn't fully cured being that it is brand new. Is this true? How long did you guys wait before waxing your new X's? Thanks for the help, I have some free time right now because of the holiday and would like to get the explorer all cleaned up :D

Wax it now, all the new paints don't need a lot of time to cure. I think it is fine to wax after a week or so.

did u just get ur X repainted or just bought it? if u just bought it, i highly doubt it was just painted the day before u got it. it probably been sittin on the lot if not others for awhile. u can wax it now. however it is cold so u might hvae to leave it on for awhile. If u just get a paint job. i think u have to wait a month if not more for the clearcoat to cure. but others should be more insight on that

No, it wasn't repainted, its brand new. And it actually didn't sit on the lot at all. It was assembled in August, and I got it in early September, so it never had a chance to sit anywhere. I just wanted to make sure it was okay before I did it. I will wait until tomorrow, as its supposed to be a tad bit warmer than today, although its still quite cold.

Yeah , you can wax it now. How ever if you had just had it repainted , most aftermarket paint manufacturers ( I know at least Sikkins paint ) reccomend paint to cure for about 30 days.

Factory paint is baked in an oven, there is no cure time on it. You can wax it the same day you buy the car.

For a repaint it depends on the catalyst used when the paint is mixed, to be sure talk with the person who painted the car. Times can range from just a few days to a couple months.
