Boy, I just replaced all the shocks and what a difference. I can now turn fast and flat. Knowing that, traveling over slippery roads I should have better weight distribution making it less likely to break away
Those stock ones were on there for looks. I think it only took maybe 10lbs of pressure to compress the old ones I removed. My guess is those factory shocks are only good for 40-50K.
Happy about finally finding the time and nice cool weather to get it done
Change them, you cannot go wrong. Just make sure you have a few odd ball sized deep well sockets, like 13mm and 18mm. The replacement hardware is american...SAE
Mine will bounce and rock a little if I go through a ditch, but not nearly as bad as my sisters Rodeo, which leads me to believe they are still in good shape.
I'm in the lead with 192,000 miles. What do I win?
132,000 ish for me. Didn't ralize the insane amount of body roll/nose dive I had until I put the new ones on. Gabriel VST's. although they're crapping out already a year later.....heh
I changed mine somewhere around 135K. I did it myself and it was so freaking hard you wouldn't believe it. The bolts were like fused with the nuts as if they were one piece. I had to lift myself up with the rear bumper while hanging under the truck, and put my foot on the end of the ratchet conected to the nuts for the rear shocks. Then I bounced on it up and down, using my bodyweight to turn the nuts a little bit during each "pull-up". It was quite a work out but it was a definite improvement over the stock shocks. A much smoother ride. You should have heard the noise the bolts made when they turned. It sounded like someone was screaming and the whole rig was bouncing up and down!
