Hi everyone,
Now that our beloved Explorers are enjoying a long and fruitful life most '97-00' now getting up into the 100k mile mark. I would be interested to hear what if any major repairs have been done to your trucks. I have been thankful so far with proper maintenence.
Best !

V8s are pretty solid. You shouldn't have to worry about any major driveline problems. Usually want starts to wear after 100k are things like balljoints, CV joints, u-joints, and tie rods.

I agree with Hartman that ball joints should be expected quite soon. When replacing, the OEM Ford items are pretty good and last a while, but the MOOG replacements, with grease fittings are a lot better.

nothing quite done as of yet... other than the driveshaft. But I need new balljoints, and my tranny is going to get rebuilt shortly.
at 140k+
my speedo/odometer has been off for about 30k miles

my dads got a 97 V8 AWD with 79k on it. in 3 1/2 years of ownership

pass side manifold broke at 55k
drivers side CV joint replaced 57k
rear drivers side rotor at 72k

other then that it runs like brand new.
