how much can i run off my remote line?

right now i only have 2 amps hooked to the remote wire of my cd player.
but i also have 2 fans for cooling the amps i would love to make it so the fans simply come on with the amps. would this be a problem for the remote power?

That probally wouldnt be a problem for it but I wouldnt recomend running amps and fans off of it.

All you need to do is get a relay and then you can hook as many things as you need up to it.

You can check the owners manual of your HU to see what the output rating is (in amps) of your remote line. Then check to see what the fans are drawing. If the fans are drawing too much, just use a simple relay.

Good rule of thumb is more then two amps = use a relay.

Meaning if you have two amps and a crossover network, add a relay.

Dont power cooling fans with the remote lead, use a relay so they have their own 12v power source. You can however run more then one cooling fan from the same + and - leads.


Some of the newer amps and crossovers have a remote lead in and a remote lead out for switching/powering multiple amps. Again this is fine to turn on multiple amps from a single remote, but again, dont power cooling fans with it.........

Why is it not good to have fans ran off the remote line with yours amps? I have my 2 amps and 4 fans off just one line. Should i have just a switch for my fans only?

You need to look up thevoltage ooutput on your head unit for the remote line.

You will find that this is not adequate to power the fans and the turn on's for the amps.

It is SIMPLE to wire in a relay to handle the extra duties you are using your remote wire for..........
