Ill keep paying till i have no money for the bills....(Electric, Phone, Internet) Ill give up cable for my explorer.

Right now its my only means of transportation. The price of gas hurts, just have to budget a little differently. I've decided that my next vehicle will be a V8, mainly because the difference in mileage will be negligible around town, and it will be a whole lot easier to get that V8 rumble....

Wow in that other thread....2.20 for 87?! I wish prices were that low, my 94 is SUCH a gas saver after having driven my Lightning all summer filling up at least twice a week (run 100 octane and pay 5-6 dollars).

As much as it costs. There's more to life than gas mileage, I will never drive one of those little front wheel drive pop cans...Plus, you can't beat the sound of a tuned small block V-8!

I'm not really sure what to vote. The expo sits quite a bit because my wife takes her Taurus to work, and I usually bike (even today in 27 degree cold...) because I only have to go a few blocks, it's more of a personal/health choice than gas though. Even if the price of gas gets really high, I'll keep the explorer and use it for an off road toy or for winter snow driving.

It's the wife's and she uses it for 5-24 mile trips a week and burns a tank every 10-12 days. Not as expensive as a new car or as a cab ride, so she can go as long as she wants.

Currently getting 20-22 MPG, with more on the way, installing UD Pulleys this weekend.

I'd do what I had to...

But why pay when yours is free? Lock your tank :shifty_ey

...that's always my "first mod".

1970s or the crazies

Agreed... You must remember the 70s very well, or you've seen the people that damage other peoples' suv fuel systems by putting in their own "additives." :D

Mine isn't my daily driver anymore since I got a G6. I still drive it once or twice a week though because the G6 is so boring. Just got tired of filling it up every other day and had to get a cheap more efficient DD. So far I'm paying less for the new car and gas than I used to pay for just gas in the X. With gas prices going up, I'll save even more. If gas prices get too high, I'll park it until I need to haul stuff.

When the weather gets warm again, my Mustangs will be out no matter how much gas costs.

I would never ever use a locking gas cap on any vehicle. Chances are that if the thief really wants the gas, they will use a hacksaw and cut through the filler tube causing more damage than a tank of gas will cost. Plus I have seen the caps fail locked on with people needing to get gas, only to find they are unable to get the cap off. Again, I would rather come out to an empty tank than have a big hole cut in the filler tube.

And just like door locks they tend to freeze in winter, i have to stand outside for like 15 min trying to get mine off.

The gas thieves around here don't even bother with a hacksaw. They just reach under the cars and punch a hole in the bottom of the tank. Throw a can under and walk around the corner. Come back when the can's full and nobody notices you monkeying with the car. There were a bunch of cars hit in some parking structures a couple of years ago and they were caught on video.

I'm thinking about getting a gas tank skid plate for all my cars, LOL.

True but generally the thief is looking for grab-and-go, and fooling around with a hacksaw on someone's gas tank wouldn't be easy to shrug off if someone happen on them. Personally, I'd say the damage to the gas tank would be less than damage to the engine should some ####up decide to slip some sugar, sand, salt, beer, maple syrup, coffee, or whatever else into the tank. :(

My lord, what kinda gas thieves are those???

Don't know of any gas thieves today, but they just casually opened the gas door and siphoned... that was the 70s. But now, hacksaws and hole punching??!!

It'd be better if they just took the car...

The Mountaineer will most likely be parked/sold by this time next year, if not earlier... I will be buying a Subaru Outback to drive 90% of the time

Then I'll probably be selling the Mountaineer within the next year or 2 when I buy a Ranger to beat up off road/run weekend errands in.

Not sure on what to vote.

My Paseo is my daily driver.

Long distance trips are in the g/f's 05 Accord LXSE coupe.

Explorer sees mostly short in-town driving, with an occational 78 mile round trip to a junkyard.

I've actually been considering getting a cheap beater next summer if prices continue to go up. I hate to say it, but if it keeps going up at this rate, I may just get one. I have been looking at older eclipses, I like them. I'm not a fan of civics (or other small hondas). I am def. keeping my exploder, as long as it lasts, and that should be a good long time, especially if I can keep the main miles off it.
