If I'm understanding your question, your switch uses two inputs and a single output.
Using an on-off-on switch, one position will connect the system as it normally would operate, center is off, and the other position applies the 12V to the clutch, yes? If so, then yes, you are pretty much correct.
On: 2wd, 4auto, 4low
off: 2wd, 2wd, 2low
On: 2wd (but the front driveshaft and differential is turning), 4high, 4low
Make sense?
