What's the best way to clean the MAF sensor on a '96 Explorer? My dumb check engine light came back on about three weeks after replacing the DPFE sensor throwing a PO153 code; meaning O2 circuit slow response-bank 2, sensor 1. Figured I'd hit the MAF sensor next.

MJT, slow response "usually" means a faulty sensor. That's not to say you shouldn't try the cheap and easy stuff first...... ;)

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Have a Merry Christmas!

If you need it, Autozone sells replacement MAFs for around $100... and keeps them in stock.

On mine there was a bit of plastic that was melted into the head of one of the torx screws to prevent tampering. This is done at the factory and is a subject of many of the posts in the linked thread. It was a PAIN to get out!!! Basicly melt and pick at it untill it's out. I could have used a blow torch, but was afraid of hurting something.

That's annoying. Why would they do that?
