how to fix a broken surround on sub?

hey guys the other day ... i noticed my sub wasnt sounding to good at louder volumes... i have 2 alpine type r 12s by the way... and i looked and one of them had not really busted but the rubber surround was not glued to the kevlar cone anymore... i was just wondering is there some kind of glue i can fix this with? its not all the way around the sub its just about 4 or 5 inches of it around it.... any help would be appreciated..thanks

silicone or epoxy, not too much though. just put it on the crack then smooth it out around the edges and let it dry for 24 hours before using the sub.

like silicone as in the stuff you put around sinks and bathtubs and stuff?

its clear and you buy it at your local hardware store. it doesn't matter what kind as long as it will work on like vinyl, rubber, canvas type stuff or plastic.

nah dont use silicone, i fixed a sub i had with plain crazy glue just put a lil bit and its all good

crazy glue on an alpine type r 12 pushing with 1200 watts going to it... humm i dont know if i believe that one...anything else.....

If it's a really good speaker you'd it would be best to take it to a reconer and have him reglue it .... if it is a long throw with a tight tolerance voice coil/magnet assembly you lose a lot (And possibly ruin the voice coil from rubbing) if it isn't aligned in a jig when it's glued and allowed to dry ... luckily I know a JBL authorized reconer and he's done quite a number of classic (ie. old) guitar amp speakers for me for the rebuilds/restores I do ... check your local music shop that handles/repairs concert sound systems to see who does their work ... some of those old JBL, Celestion, Jensen and E-V speakers are better reconed than anything they sell new today (despite the hype) (especially Jensens which are 'name-only' junk for quite a number of years now)

If it's relatively cheap (and sloppy) then by all means glue away

You need to use CA glue... It is what subs are assembled with at the factory. silicone isnt going to hold it. You can buy an accelerator that makes it dry pretty much instantly.

well i mean its a type r that seems to be expensive to most..but if i cant get it right the first time i could always try and get rid of it.. but what is CA glue i take it that is short for sumthing??

cyanoacrylate glue, you can get it at those RC hobby car stores.
