Well, I finally found some trails in Redmond by my house. We took my friends Jeep up there and it is a pure mud bog. We had no doors on and no top and we're still finding mud inside a week later after cleaning for about 8 hours. Well, he went on vacation and I'm anxious to go again. How will a stock Explorer with 50% tread left All Terrain Tires do? But to my main question, I know I'm going to get stuck in some places, We got stuck in the Jeep three times with brand new mud terrains. what do I attatch a friends winch cable in the front of my X to incase I get stuck so he can pull me out? Just want to know before I head out and have fun.
Thanks

put the hook in the frame rail

thats what they did to my X when they pulled it out of a ditch and it cracked the bumper. But that is the only thing in the front to pull from. So find a good way to hook it to the frame rail so you dont break your bumper too much

they did it to mine and nothing happened to my bumper....

Jim you dont have a bumper
Besides they had to pull me at least 20 yards to the end of the ditch then up a 60 degree angle and i had one front tire blown out

Sounds easy, but got under my X, and well, where is the frame rail? Is it right by the bumper? Thanks

The bumper will be attached to the frame. There should be 2 frame rails running along the sides of the X. A little ways behind the front bumper but in front of the front wheels there is a frame rail that connects the 2 side frame rails. Thats what you want to connect it to

Sweet now i see it. Thanks a lot.

Ya Know, a couple of sticks of dynamite under the truck would lift that sucker out.........aah forget it. Too hard to clean it afterwards :)

i was @ leat 1/4 mile from pavement and was stuck on a 70 degree slove.... it was 12 ft deep....... from ground, you could even see my truck... i had 2 flats on the rear.... luckily, i talked to the tow truck guys and they said they pitted for a baja 1000 truck awile back.... there huge 2x4 tow truck didnt get stuck......it was slidind around the hill trying to pull mine out but all turned out ok

Let me tell you what not to do!!!!!

I got my x stuck on Memorial Day weekend real bad and I was about 500 Miles from home It was totally flat but the ground was too soft and I just sank like titanic the exhaust was blowing bubbles and all I could see was the top 2 inches of my tires I knew I was in trouble 2 trucks and a jeep came along the no one with too much for brains. I had a tow strap and since it was my rig I got in the mud to hook it up ( this was my 2nd time off road) I couldn't see any thing so I wraped the strap around the frame rail in the front driver side One pull and stuff is flying everywhere. It ripped the transmission coolant line out of the radiator It runs along the frame rail. Well I had to get a tow truck to pull me out (two trucks together couldn't get me out) I had to rent a car to get home and return a weak latter to pick up my X Total damage $400.00 For a radiator $190.00 Rental bill If anyone has put tow hooks on a early model X please tell me how!
