WHO KNOWS? I mean it looks like it could be fixed, but from one picture it is impossible to tell
Get an estimate from a reputable body shop and then get another one

There are many parts involved in the repair for the liftgate and bumper and the cost varies on whether you have a power or manual 'gate'.
It also depends upon where the shop orders the parts from. Here are the parts/costs from Levittown Ford which is way less expensive than the Ford parts site.
Keep in mind that there is likely other damage that isn't visible.
Is the other driver or his insurance paying for this? Has he/she been charged?

Peter

Could be totaled depending how much damage was projected through the body. Hard to tell from just the rear shot. How is the alignment of the side doors?

Sad to see, but glad you are ok.

That’s easily $6000 in damage on the rear alone. I’d bet they total it.

They will certainly total it in my opinion. I'm guessing both quarter panels are buckled and rear subframe is probably tweaked. Where I am from if you got hit from behind it almost always the fault of other driver who is responsible for 100% of the insurance claim. Good luck it may work out just fine

If these Ex's have unibodies like is popular these days, she's probably done. Those are designed to protect the passengers during collisions at the expense of the vehicle's integrity. Even if you can replace the visible damage, the structure of the vehicle could be out of alignment (Subarus and Cherokees, I'm looking at you) which would lead to issues with misaligned suspension and drivetrain components, uneven tire wear, unsafe driving characteristics (like differing steering response and suspension rebound) between left turns and right turns, etc.

Take the insurance money and buy another Ex.

I’d MUCH rather be in an accident in my Subaru than my Mountaineer.

I will keep you posted Geico was here this morning. Odd they didn’t want me to take the car to auto body they looked at it in my driveway. 🤔

That’s not uncommon. I’ve had more driveway assessments than auto body shop ones.

Ouch.

Glad you are safe… that looks like a lot of bending and twisting.

Good luck with insurance settlement.

What's the buyback price for the explorer?

What's the buyback price for the explorer?
For my 2014 with 140k mine was totalled out a couple weeks ago and the buyback price from Geico was $4,100. They said take it or leave it but that is what Copart is offering them.

For the OP damage I am for sure they will total it out. If they total it out make sure and provide all receipts for any work done in the past year to get credit for vehicle betterment.

It’s been fun kids. She get hauled away tomorrow. Overall not a bad car. Wish me luck with my wrangler.

@FEMC RIP... Explorers won't win any contests, but are a nice platform for an all-rounder.

Wranglers are their own game. I hope it serves you well. I also hope you find the Jeep community helpful; some of them are jerks!
