:confused:I've got a '92 Explorer with manual locking hubs. I heard noises coming out of the left front, sounded like bad bearings. I needed to do the brakes anyway, so I replaced the rotors, brake pads, bearings and races, everything is installed and torqued to specs. Everything was fine till yesterday. Now when I go down the road I hear what sounds like bad bearings and a kind of rattle like the hub is loose. Came home, pulled it apart, everything appeared to be fine. I installed new bearigs and races just to be sure. I checked the fluid levels in trans., transfer case, and front diff., I also checked the u-joints. all seem to be in good shape. This morning I locked the hubs and put it in 4H. It seemed to want to bind up after a few feet, although it will still pull. I put it back in 2 wheel and set the hubs to free wheel and it moves fine, just makes that God awful noise. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

How (and how much torque) did you apply to the axle hub nut (preload and final)?

I preloaded it at about 30 pounds backed it off about an 1/8, and torqued mthe locking nut to 150
