Hub replacement

Hey guys,
I am hearing a really annoying grinding, rubbing, wheel bearing noise coming from the drivers front wheel on my 96 xlt. Are these Hub difficult to replace?

Nope, not hard at all...grab a Haynes manual and get to it. Aside from being an expensive part, the replacement isn't too bad.

Yup.. CV axles kind of makes it hard to install manual hubs. The hub assembly is a sealed unit so you have to replace it in order to replace the wheel bearings.

hey when u buy the new hub ill pay shipping for the old one... i need the sensor that goes into it for the abs.... whether you can take the sensor out or ship the whole damn thing i'd appreciate it.... you get a new sensor with the new hub... and there a pain in the ass to get out without breaking (how i broke mine while greasing)... let me know

I don't remember the sensor, but i've got a hub sitting around somewhere from a swap i did a year, year 1/2 ago (after the fact, it wasn't even necessary as my squeaking was coming from u-joints, so i believe my hub is still good). If tokarz can't help you, i may be able to...

Not to hijack, as it is the same subject, but how can you tell if a hub/bearing assembly is bad once it's off the truck? Now that i think of it, i may have something to sell....

usually it will grind a little bit or feel bumpy as you rotate it in your hand... sometimes you cant feel it though unless its going at high speed... if anyone has a sensor or even a bad hub with a sensor in it ill pay for shipping for it. ive been trying to find a used one for awhile... dont need the bearing just the sensor... if u want to send me the whole shebang thats fine ill take it apart myself...

oh....is it an internal sensor? didn't remember taking off a harness or anything. If i still got it at my 'rents garage i'll check it out and see if it's any good. If its not, i'll figure out the shipping and let u know...

it should plug into the bearing unit and the cord should be about a foot long...
