I forced the spindle nut and broke it and the slot key. The spindle nuts threads are still intact but about a third of the collar is broken. I went to the dealer and he said 100 bucks for the spindle nut 300 bucks for the spindle assembly.

1st quest. : Does anyone know of a lock tab washer replacement for the slot key (2 3/8ths inch: 92 model).

2nd quest.: Can I still use the spindle nut with part of the collar gone?

3rd quest. : I know that I cannot leave the actuator (4x4 auto hub crown) off if I use the slot key but would there be any problem leaving the actuator off if I use a locktab washer?

4th quest. : pertaining to question 1 if anyone knows of such a replacment can they give me a link or the name of a retailer where I might find the part?

Carquest, Napa, most aut parts stores will carry spindle nut sets, if you have auto hubs now (hard to tell from your post) is the time to change to manual.

Your post is not exactly clear as to what broke, sounds like manual hub spindle nuts. Inner has little lock pin
Then the tabed lock ring washer
then the outer jamb nut.

These parts are the same on any Dana 35 or Dana 44 axle, so that helps you find them at the parts store.

they are like $5 ea at Carquest, dealer is full of it. You can convert to manual hubs for just over $100.

Thanx for your reply. Sorry I was not clear. They are auto actuating hubs. I started to repack the bearings because the hubs were (very) hot to the touch. I (the dummy) forced the spindle nut and the collar of the spindle nut broke as did the slot key. I agree with you; that dealer had to be sniffing something. But, when I go around to the junkyards they will not let the spindle nut go without the entire spindle assembly. I intend to put the old spindle nut back on with a lock tab washer so that I don`t have to go looking for a slot key. The mods to the 4x4 and all that are luxuries I cannot afford not having had a job for a few years now.

Auto hubs do not get packed with grease, you clean them with ATF actually.
I dont think you did this, I know you were talking wheel bearings but i just wanted to be sure.

the thing about the auto hubs is they only fail when you need them the most :) I love my Warn manuals..
