what bilstein shocks do i need to get when i do the torsion twist?
i bought bilstein part #f4b462131 hD's for the front and they didnt have enough travel for my suspension. jus aint long enough for the twist. had to lower the truck back down.

stock length shocks work with a torsion twist because you are not increasing the suspensions amount of travel, you are simply changing the ride height that your suspension sits at

So you should use stock length shocks

welcome

thats what i thought. but when i hit bumps and my truck bounces back up i feel
a hard bang like it would if you bottomed out. i also had to jack up the lower control arm a inch or two jus to mount the new shocks before i did the twist.

i have the stock length shocks on mine, and have the tt too, and mine don't do that , ,

sounds like you got the wrong shocks somehow,,

thanx, my bad. brain fart

every body says they are the right ones. i got all new front end components except lower control arm bushings, gonna do them tomorrow. w'll see if that fixes the problem.
new parts are aawesome!

You should not have had to raise the control arm to install the shocks. With my control arm just hanging in the air I have to compress the shocks to remove them. Also check your bump stop to make sure it is intact.

How high did you TT it?

A lot more banging and a harsher ride is expected from a Torsion twist. See the torsion twist is actually the opposite as far as spring rates go for off roading and bumps because it makes the suspension much "harder" and to soak up bumps, you want a "soft" suspension. Thereofore, because the torsion twist makes your spring rate harder, it is actually a suspension for smooth roads and not for bumps (like off roading).

I did the TT last summer and just now had my passenger side shock crap out. The lower mount broke off leaving the rest of the shock dangling. I picked up a pair of KYB GR-2's (stock replacement) and that seems to be working fine. I would, however, prefer a shock extender for good measure. If anyone knows where I could find one it would be much appreciated.

From what I'm told that's what broke my shock. Apparently, the extra lift (albeit miniscule) puts more strain on them and "stretches" them out beyond what their designed for.

thanks. everything is fine now. i actually had a lower ball joint crap out on me. its fixed now and everything is nice and smooth.

i adjusted the bolt all the way in. some one told me to do it like that. found out thats way too much. i undid what i did and redid it the correct way and works fine now.

wow
okay listen up

twisting your torsion bars does not give you more shock travel

all you are doing is adjusting your vehicles ride height so you can fit bigger tires

adjusting the ride height means you are pushing the suspension down by inserting a stiffer spring, stiffer spring rate = holds up more weight

this does not mean you just gained 4" of suspension travel, you have the exact amount of suspension travel you had before, just now its less room to move down (droop) and more room to move up (bump)

so stock length shocks will work with any amount of torsion twist you do

blaming the tt for breaking your shock is retarded, a part failed or it was the wrong shock, simple as that

You dont need longer or shorter shocks for a TT, you need stock length and application shocks, stock length shocks will extend beyond your lower control arm, even with the suspension at full droop, if allowed to do so

simply cranking the bolt all the way in is no way to do a torsion twist and the last thing you want to do is lift it more then you need, it will cause excessive wear on cv axles, steering, tires, ball joints, and even your torsion bars, plus it will ride like a ghetto wagon

hope that brings the clarity

well said!!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

never said my shock was broke. and you made it clear the first time you said it

Thank you, that makes more sense. I just got pwnd.

no but they were blaming your torsion twist for your stock shock breaking its mount, = they were wrong

my bad. thanks for all the info. on to the nxt project
