last week i traded my worn out and rusted out FS bronco for a 66 Ford Falcon 2dr. It has the 200 I6 with a 3 speed auto trans. The car is completely original with only 44k on the clock. how do i know it's only 44 and not 144 or 244. good question. the car stopped running back in 72 with a bad fuel pump. then it sat in a barn for approximately 35 years. and the original owners manual is in the glove box with service records filled out. when the previous owner got it last year from the barn. all he had to do was install a new fuel pump, clean the points, change all the fluids, new battery and it fired right up after sitting for over 35 years. oh yeah the guy who had it before me also cut out all the rust and welded in new sheet metal, so there is no rust on the body. the inside of the trunk has a little patch of rust that needs fixed but i think it only needs sanded and painted bc it's not that bad. the interior is all original with an uncut dash. and the only things wrong with it is that the driver's seat busted a seam, there's a 2" tear in the headliner, and the radio lights up but doesn't work. once again i'm talking too much so here's some pictures.

Nice! Great story too.

I almost traded my motorcycle for a '62 Futura with a guy from work. He still wants to trade, and I'm still thinking about it. I do miss having an old car to cruise.

right now i'm planning on getting it in perfect running condition. then i'm going to change the interior from blue to black. since it's in primer i can choose pretty much any color. so i think i'm going to go with a hot rod red and get some 15" thrust rims. and maybe do a lower stripe on the sides like the classic mustangs have. hide a cd player in the glove box or a cd changer in the trunk and keep all the speakers hidden also.

i want this thing to be more of a driver than some thing that gets taken out of the garage once a month.

Nice find! Always loved the Falcons...

i like the 65's the best personally but this one was available and i couldn't say no. i like that 62. it looks awesome. what kind of bike do you have?

Nice Falcon! I'd be willing to bet the radio actually works, the speaker is likely junk. I had a '61 Fairlane in HS that was that way. Radio would light up but no sound. Found the speaker was gone. Hooked up a new speaker and it worked. :D

Colin, you can always buy another new bike, you won't however find a sweet old Falcon too very often. Drop it, add some wide whites on chrome reverse wheels and cruze that puppy!

yeah i was going to try and hook up a speaker to see if it still works. but its only an AM radio and the only AM station around here is rush limbaugh and i don't want to listen to him.

i agree you should trade for the falcon. bc you can always get another bike.

btw nice bike. i've got a buell blast that i use to run around town and save on gas in the summer. done a little work to it. here's a couple pics to ***** it out

right now i'm planning on keeping the 200 I6. It runs pretty good, it just needs a tune up. but if i do decide to do a V8 swap i was going to go with a 289 or a 302. i like the way the older 4 doors look. nice looking car.

That's funny Mike. That was my exact plan if I were to trade for this car! :D Hmm... you guys got me thinking about it again.
Like my 63.5 Galaxie.

wrigley - Buell is a sweet bike.

thanks, it's ok just a little small. i might get a bigger buell over the summer. like a newer lightning. probably get a 1200cc bc the insurance is the same as the 900cc. at least it was the last i talked to my insurance company.

you should get the falcon and then we could start our own little falcon sub-forum like there is for the areostars, rangers, and bronco II's:D but that probably wont happen seeing as it's not a ranger based vehicle.

Nice find. I've always liked the Falcons and Mercury Comets:thumbsup:

PS one suggestion. Check your brake lines for rust! Better yet replace the master cylinder with a dual circuit cylinder and run new lines since brake lines can corrode from the inside out and not appear bad until you press down on the brakes and blow a hole through your line losing all braking...

Back in the '70s a friend of mine had just bought a Buick from the '60s with a single reservoir master cylinder. He wanted me to drive his car, so I slid behind the wheel, put my foot on the brake and put it in gear. That was all it took to blow a hole in the brake line... After I put it in gear I couldn't get the car to stop until I put it in neutral and let it roll to a stop:eek: You really don't want that to happen when you're coming up behind stopped traffic.

thanks for the info.

are there kits to change out the old style mater cylinder. are they vehicle specific or just general kits that you have to make fit. or is it just grabbing a master cylinder from another car and putting it in.

if it's a kit where's a good place to get one from for a decent price. i want the car to be a driver and not just sit in the garage. so the function is more important to me than the looks.

took off the valve cover to replace the old cork gasket that was leaking and replace it with a brand new rubber gasket. and this is what i found inside.

i didn't clean it at all. this is exactly how it was when i pulled off the cover. it's probably one of the cleanest engines that i've seen in a while. but i was wonder if you guys think that someone has rebuilt the top end of this thing.

I suggest checking out a forum that covers the Falcon, or maybe one of the owners on this site can help.

I had a '62 Falcon I-6 from '67 to '72. I had no problems with much of the original eqipment, except the rear end which I had to have replaced, and the driver seat stitching (use thick thread, not fine). The guy I bought it from had changed it from an auto to a three speed and did it badly, but I can't blame the car for that.

I fondly remember losing my car keys behind the rear seat in the dark... I don't think I'm that flexible anymore, though.

I'd be interested to see if you have trouble with parts - I think I'd like one, too.

looks like somebody had cleaned it before did a hell of a good job on it
