I had to change my battery, and I had turned off ESN, so when I turn on my car, after changing it, it's in security mode. So I call Eclipse, and the unit had a number on it they've never seen before, and have no idea what to make of. So I now have to send in the cd player, to have it decoded, and I will be without a cd player for roughly 2 weeks. Fun Times.

Anyone else had an experience like this?

Why dont you have the security code? What model do you have?

nah- but i wish i could afford to

I had an Eclipse years ago when they first came out.

This CD player did not have a re-movable face, because theives are supossed to know they are worthless if you steal them, right? wrong.

they stole mine anyways.

I was dumb for buying a deck that didnt have a re-movable faceplate.

I did really like the head unit though....

Many units have a similar feature, Kenwood, etc....
make sure you write down the security code or ID number so you can get it when you need it.

yeah, what thief is actually going to know you can't use an eclipse hu without the code etc.? i think their stupid for not making them removable

I have one of the new cd8443s. I did have a code, however, I found out that now the code changes every time it locks, and it relies on a key CD to be unlocked.
The interesting part is that I did set a key CD, but it won't unlock it, hence my troubles. Oh well, in two weeks and $25 less later, I should have it back in working order.

I have an Eclipse 54050 8V (currently the CD8443--mine's about 2 yrs old).....When the ESN is activated, and power is disconnected from the unit, it locks up and will prompt you for security clearance when you fire it back up. In order to unlock the unit, you need to provide it with the "key CD." Your manual should have told you how to do this... any CD you wish can be your "key CD." When you initially set up ESN, it will ask you for the CD, copy its data, and store it. Then they suggest you keep your key CD in a safe place so that you will have it handy in this situation. When you turn the unit on after having complete power loss, it asks you for the key CD...you put it in and it unlocks. After several failed attempts, the unit will no longer allow you to keep trying, and the digits that scroll across the screen is the serial number of the unit. In your situation, as you stated, Elcipse may be your only resort to having it unlocked. Good luck.

I'm on my 3rd eclipse cd player and never had any problems. I just changed my battery and it went into security mode. I installed the key cd and it is fine.

i have the CD8443 in my X. IMHO its a wonderful cheap HU. sure, it should have a removable face but mine's allways parked in the garage so no problems there. seems the local car audio theft ring only targets vehicles parked at home late at night.

you should have programmed it with the key CD when you first installed it.

i like it because it is very plain looking. no bling bling, just old fashioned classic styling. IMHO one of the best cheap HU's ever made (unless you need removable face).

my kenwood z828 has this feature but i set the code myself. It is kind of stupid though, the only thing it does it prevent the theif from making a profit off of it but your still without a head unit. Anyone whos dumb enough to be a theif in the first place won't know **** about the stuff anyway.

The thing is that I did follow all of the steps, and programmed a key cd. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to work when the time came around for it to do it's job.

And it currently is living at the Eclipse factory, and should be returned to me sometime next week.
