I ordered in a 258 AMC inline 6 for a customer at work and he came in today to pick it up. The vendor we ordered from did not put the engine in a molded case or even on an engine pallet, instead they sat the motor on a small piece of wood vertically. The only thing securing the motor to the wood was packing wrap that was stapled to the bottom slab of timber. They then sat this monstrosity onto a large 40x48 pallet making it impossible to get the manual engine lift under it. So in my infinite wisdom I decide that a co-worker and myself could ease the motor off of the pallet and onto the engine lift.

Well.. his 'ease' and my 'ease' werent the same. On the count of three he lifted with more 'ease' than I did sending the top heavy engine agaisnt my forehead. Initially I didnt think things were so bad. A couple minutes later I had a knot the size of a baseball on my forehead and the bruising began. Then tingling, mood swings, nausea, intense headaches, neck pain, and disorientation. My fiance came to get me at work and drove me to the ER where I was diagnosed with a concussion and told to take 4 days off of work.

So I have a mini vacation from getting hit in the head from a not so mini object. Im going to be sore, the ER staff assured me of that, but at least I wont be at work! Itll give me some time to mess around with my explorer at least.

In this 4 days off, I would avoid at all costs trying to recreate the scenerio.

least you got the time to mess with the X............ I've had plenty of that lately :thumbdwn:

Yikes! Get well. I had a concussion once from face planting on my mountainbike. Helmet helped, but symptoms continued for months. I'd wake up every day and I felt like I had a hangover. Took me back to my University days!

Take the 4 days off to chill and then definitely take it slow. Concussions can take a while to get through your system and can't be taken lightly.

Guys, guys, guys.... You're missing the most important question here:

What's the customer putting an AMC 258 I-6 into??? Who orders one of those???

Must see pics of the carnage too... :)

ouch!!! I had a t case to the forehead the other day, but thats because I sat up into it, later the same day I smacked the back of my head on the FJ's trailer hitch, same deal, sat up into it

but a straight six to the face???????? Ouch!! those suckers have some torque!!

Good thing you got it checked out, that skier lady last week died after hitting her head and not getting it checked out....

stupid shady engine shipper morons, been there done that! Plastic wrap does not a secure engine make!!

the customer has an 82 eagle sx4.. i tried talking him into buying a junkyard 4.0L from a newer jeep, common swap that can be done easily. but he spent $1500 on a longblock instead. i was going to go look at an sx4 that i found in the paper, but after this.. idk.

i didnt get to spend much time on the explorer today.. my brother broke a spark plug off in his dakota, been trying to get it out but with absolutely no luck, anyone have any ideas?

I'll try to get some pictures of my ginormous heed asap.

haha, yeah, those engines are torquy- lots of bruising power there. Hope you get well soon.
