Hello all. I have a 98 explorer awd. It's time to change the tires now and I want something a little bigger than the current 15's that it has. I want it to sit a little higher than it does now. Can I put a bigger tire around the 15in rim or should I get some shocks for the higher stance? Can I wrap a 16in tire around a 15in rim?

Welcome to the forum.

That's a good question, but no you cannot put a 16" tire on a 15" rim.

If you look around, and search the forum you'll find your answer. You can install a larger 15" tire, however the larger you use the higher you will need to lift the truck. This is another expense, and usually will cost about as much as the tires.

The "torsion twist and shackles" is the most common method. this will allow a 31" tire on stock wheels, some even manage 32" without trimming.

Good luck.

Thanks. I'll do a search on the twists and shackles. My Ex sits pretty low and I want to lift it up a bit.
