IAC gasket?

Trying to figure out why my idle has jumped up in the last 2 days of driving. The vehicle is still relatively new to me (3 weeks) so I don't have that total "what's normal" feeling yet. I found a vacuum leak yesterday and it didn't fix my issue. Then this morning on the way to work it got super high idle. Like 1800-2000. After reading some here I decided to pull the IAC in the parking lot. About 1/3rd of the gasket is completely missing and I can see evidence from the build up that it was obviously leaking around that whole area.

My question though... Would a leaking/missing gasket like this cause a higher idle or a lower rougher idle?

Oh it also usually runs rough on first startup and even sometimes dies once or twice before it'll smooth out and start running.

Obviously I'll replace this gasket. I'm going to run on my break and see if by chance I can find one. If not I'll put a very thin layer of silicone on it and hopefully that'll work to at least get me home. I'm thinking this weekend I'm going to try and clean the TPS, MAF, etc...

you could make a gasket your self also I do that all the time for things like that one out of cereal boxes.

LOL, funny you mention that... I pulled a sheet of cork and cut one out to just get me by for now. Installed it and no difference. I still have a high idle. About 1500 rpm in neutral, 1000rpm or so stopped in gear. It's a automatic, '91. I'm reading threads right now in regards to what's going on.

Thinking tonight I'll pickup some MAF cleaner on the way home, deal with that just cause. I'm going to check the TPS also and spray around looking for vacuum leaks.

Well I just went to lunch. It's about 100 degrees out right now so "cold" start might not exist. LOL

For fun though I started it up and while running unplugged the IAC. I didn't notice any change so I left it unplugged. I went to lunch which got it up to temp. It is reading a little colder then I remember it reading though by the way... Anyways, when I got back it was idleing around 1500rpm. I plugged the IAC back in and it bumped up to about 1800rpm. So I went ahead and unplugged it and am leaving it unplugged for my drive home in a few hours.
