iac ohms test

...There are several stickies here that show how to do codes with just a paper clip for the 91-94 explorers...The OBD-1 uses a different scanner and plug such as the one you have...

..The Auto stores will read 95 and newer models as they have the scanner that reads OBD-II...What they also did not tell you as most stores won't, they will not read your OBD-II codes unless the CEL light is on...;)

...Now, I may be wrong with reading your codes from the video as an all clear is a 1-11 pulse reading and yours was a 1____111_111_____1____111_111_______...I read this as a start up 1, 33, 1 as a seperator, and a confirming 33, but I did not see an end of test pulse...:dunno:

It seemed like you didn't wait long enough as there may have been more codes to follow...Sometimes this test is 5 minutes...I hope this helps...

k, i'll redo it and let stay connected longer .just so happens now my camera is out of juice ......haveing one of those days AGAIN ! lol

edit: just called one place near me ( goodyear) and they told me that there were two scanners that can be used to check the truck out ...one for $45 fee will scan for just codes ...the other for 95 will scan the entire truck ....that don't sound right ...if one will only scan for codes then the other is getting the same info from the same test port:confused:...i thought that a obd I system is limited on the info it provides ...thus the obd II systems that are morea true computer system for monitoring the engine's activities.

strange turn of event today since i last posted earlier ,did not do another code test but when this all started when i found a vac leak ( remember this) the vac line had been that way all year without me knowing it .after traced it back around the back side of the motor i figured out that i must have got it hooked wrong some how and hooked another vac line up thinking it was to the heater control system.6 months ago my heater control valve self destructed in the drive way and i replaced it ...but yet the valve did not work with the heater controls inside the cab ( i figured that it was something else at the time preventing it from working correctlly) so i left it be till today......

so after scratching my head all day and finally figuring out what vac lines went where and what was connected to where i finally got the heater control system back up and running ....went inside the cab and turned the control to activate the heater control valve and looked under the hood and the solinoid was working right but the pivit arm on the valve started leaking coolant but luckilly i got advanced auto to replace it free ( saved me $20) ...

so what does this all have to do with the iac and the idle problems i had been haveing ?...... well after fixing the vac leak and replaceing 2 sensors the truck drives with more power ,perfect cold idle, climate systems work now ,and to top all that off the truck has lost that dam pulse in the engine while driveing ( i can't believe that's finally gone ) , i can leave most people sitting at the light when it turns green now :D lol ( almost feel like a different truck now )

plus to top off all of the above my drivers side window auto down feature is working again LOL ....... i can't explain it ...........

btw: on the way to the bank today to go pay some bills with the truck in the shape it was before( plus being mad at the whole ordeal) i slapped my hand on the steering wheel and said ,

"DEVIL GET OUT " ....... lol ......must have worked and some one was listening :)

Now you may find your MPG will go up too (if you keep your foot off the pedal of that bad-a$$ed beast!)

.....Sorry, I don't remember anything about a vacuum leak but I am happy that you got her fixed...:biggthump

come to think about it i don't think i mentioned that in this thread ...i thought i said that somewhere ...maybe on another post ...my brain still hurts from thinking about all this .

thanks tbars and fixxer for your help with this :salute:

Funny, when you started describing the way the engine was surging, a vac issue did cross my mind, but it sounded like you had electrical issues to deal with first. Glad it's all worked out.

Happy New Year!

Mike
