I have a 2003 4.0L 4x4 that has been developing a minor issue over the past 6 months. When the temperature outside is roughly 60 degrees or colder and I am coming to a stop, the engine RPMs will dip and sometimes stall. If I catch it in time and put the transmission into neutral I can avoid this.

I had changed the tranny fluid with AMSOIL fluid and a Wix filter at 80k and the tranny now has 120k on it.

Any ideas?

Your torque convertor is not unlocking. It could be that it is not being commanded as it should be, it could be a solenoid (electircal) problem, or it could be in the TC itself.

If putting it in neutral stops it from happening every time, then yes, I' certainly agree it;s the TC not UNlocking... Not sure what all's involved in troubleshooting and fixing that one though... sorry...

How do you troubleshoot the TC?
