Had to stop working on my engine swap for a week due to having to leave for work but I did manage to get the engine in prior to leaving. Well today I get back at it and start getting the transmission bolted up. get that all done and guess what? Cant hand crank the engine. I go thru a very short panic thinking the motor might be seized but then after cursing for about 5 min I start the process of unbolting the tranny. Once I got it un bolted the engine turned just fine. Well lost a whole day on that:thumbdwn::(

Make sure the torque converter is completely seated. It has a tendency to slide forward a little bit during installation, and when the transmission gets bolted down it puts pressure on the flywheel. Also make sure the engine is capable of being turned over, e.g. the transmission being in neutral and the driveshaft not connected or the wheels off the ground.

Went thru and pulled the engine and reseated that damn thing and got the same result plus the one bolt I saw on the tc thru the starter hole did not have enough meat on to screw on the nut. I am going to unbolt one more time tomorrow and try for the last time and if it doesnt work I am gong to finish the engine and tow this sob a transmission shop. I am sick of the mess:mad:

If it is an engine swap, are you sure you have the proper flywheel?

I did not change the flex plate because they are the same part number. The only difference is the year, both are 4,0l V6. I am worried now that I have damaged the pump by bolting this thing up and it not turning.

You likely know this already, but just in case:

If the TC is not properly engaged in the oil pump before mating the assemly to the engine block, it will jam and lock-up any rotation of the stuff if bolted against the engine.

Yeah I am not used to working with an automatic trans and that was part of the problem. I did bolt it up and and it would not turn so I pulled it apart and even pulled the engine to reseat the thing and got the same result so I am certain that unless GOD smiled on me I have damaged the pump.

i know this is an old thread but...
Ford TC has three clicks as you slide onto tranny shaft.

there will be VERY little room between TC and bell housing. I have the pinched fingers to prove it.
