1991 Ford Explorer. First problem began several months ago when the ignition switch wouldn't crank the starter. Nothing would happen "sometimes" when you turned the key over. If you would jiggle the switch back and forth several times or real quickly, then it would engage the starter. (Starter is new, battery is new, starter solenoid is new).
Second problem maybe related to first...Recently engine has begun to "run-on" after being cut off. Doesn't happen every time but maybe once every 15-20 times. You can remove key from ignition and car will just continue to "shake and rattle!" Just had car in at Ford dealer and they failed to simulate either problem or could offer no explanation as to what the problem might be. Unbelievable after two days. I had suggested it must be an ignition switch problem (at least the first one). They thought that it was possible but didn't recommend changing the whole key cyclinder etc. without more positive proof and too costly. They were convinced that they could not diagnose the problem unless the mechanic could see the problem occur for themselves. Good Luck...
Needless to say I was livid, it's my wife's car and the only respectable Ford dealer and service shop for nearly two hours from where I live. (I mean formerly respected service provider).
