Has anyone seen the illuminated Ford logo's? I have one installed on the rear door... it's great. I lights up in an indiglo color and looks like the factory enblem. The hook-up took a few hours to get it to look professional. They vary in size from about 3" to 5" and price from $35 to $50. Check it out www.nthcoast.com

I actually just wired the same thing tonight.

I tapped it in the wire that goes to the rear windshield wiper. That wire is only hot when the car is on so it will be on all day.. not sure if that is good or bad.

It was way to hard to wire it to my tail lights.. too much fishing the wires up and back down and tearing my insides out to get it.

They do look very nice.

btw.. do they ever burn out? Because that would be bad because they are hard to replace.. oh well.. :)

Ya, I got two...they are way cool and super easy to install.

If anything would burn out it would be the ballast. That little cube.

Pictures

Does anyone have pictures showing the installation procedure for a front logo on a 1997 X-plr?

I've had lumi-logos for about a year and a half now. Unfortunately I've had bad luck with them. I have one on my tailgate and grille. The one on the tailgate took a crap on me about 2 months after I put it on...it just stopped lighting up. So I took it off, sent it back to where I got it from and after many many weeks they finally sent me a new one. I was happy then. Now my front one is acting up. Here's a pic as to what its doing:

Dead Link Removed

Its not that great of a pic but you can tell its only lighting up part way. There is a big spot that doesn't light up...so now I have to get a new one, (sigh). Also, one other thing is that I have them on a toggle switch and only have them on part of them time.

DJ, front installs much easier than the tailgate. If you remove the top plastic piece screwed to the grill and radiator bulkhead you'll get better access to the inside of the grill. Take a flat tip screw driver and pry the oval off. It is just dbl stick taped. Drill a hole for the wire connector. I taped and bolted mine, don't over tighten the bolts or it will screw up the light. There is a ground close to the battery and/or on the bulkhead by the radiator(don't use the batt neg for ground). The grounds on my truck have a brown wire to a bolt. Tap into the side signal light for power. Obviosly you don't want to use the flasher wire.

Good Luck!

Lighted logos.

What size would I get for a 1999 Explorer? They have them in 4" and 4.75", but mine seem to be 4.5". Am I just crazy or what...? I'm guessing it's the 4.75", but I'd rather be sure. Thanks.

measure from end to end...there isn't any guess work....what you measure is the size.....I believe 4.75"

2001ExpSport, sounds pretty easy... I'll look at it again and probably give it a try. Thanks

My friend ordered mine. They do make 4.5" ones.

He needs to measure, don't take my word for it.

JCWhitney has all the sizes

Logos.

Yeah, I kinda figured I'd have to measure, which is why that was the first thing I did. I'm smart enough to figure that part out. Problem is, their web page has logos that are 4 inches and 4.75 inches. Mine measured out to be 4.5 inches. That's why I thought I'd ask here. But if they make 4.5 inch logos, as someone said, then no problem. I just wanted to find out what others had done.

Did you measure just the inside blue part, or did you include the silver border also? The lumi logo comes with the silver border which might make your 4.75. I know the ones on my 99 are 4.75

Got them on.

Well I finally got some of the logos and wired them up yesterday. It was pretty easy. The fron is wired to the parking lights, and the back is wired to the license plate light. So now they are only on when I turn on the lights. They look good. So ar I haven't seen any other Ford with them. Now let's just hope they last.

Best way to hook up the tailgate

Does anyone know how to run the wiring when installing at the tailgate? Do you have to take off the whole interior rear tailgate molding? It seems like you have to? What would be the easiest way? I have a 98 so the logo would be right above the license plate. Probably tap into the license plate wiring right? The front seems pretty easy.
Is "everyone" having problems with these lights, how reliable are they?

Liftgate

Yes, you have to remove the inner molding. There are four snaps at the top above the window. Unsnap those and then the hole panel slides up and off.

Take off the little plastic piece that the oval is on, there are four bolts. Remove the screws on the right license plate lamp and use the power line from that. It is orange I think. There is a ground on the door(brown wire) right of the window latch if you are looking at it from the inside. Use that for the ground. I ran the wires through the hole where the right license lamp wires go and just screwed it back on. Make sure the wires are away from the liftgate latch assembly. and stick the transformer for the lumilite on the inside of the lift gate. Check to see that everthing works and slide the panel back onto the liftgate and snap into place.

Your done.

Good luck.

lighted logo

ah, thanks ExpSport

I will be getting the lights in the mail from JCWhitney monday. I hope they don't burn out like they have for others. I'm a tad skeptic about the return policy for JC. The lights are cheaper at nthcoast.com, plus they have a better return policy, from what i saw, but i needed the lights quicker, so i went with JC.

thanks again sport, and hopefully everything goes well. I also just installed a westin safari bar, with KC 46 series lights, more show than offroad but it looks nice. Ran the wiring through the safari bar, looks real clean and sharp. Plan on gettin a K&N air filter, but i was told not to modify the cold box. So now i'm not sure what to do. Yes the K&N filter will help out the hp, but i still want to modify the bottom of the cold box. Not sure what to do

kind regards,
UnderTow

Ya, my front one just bit the dust. Less than 3 months old.
