I'm having a problem with my 1999 Ford Explorer.

Hey everyone,

Well i'm having a problem with my 1999 Ford Explorer XLT. The problem is the back left disk brake seems to be a problem. Recently I been having this problem when I drive and I let go of the gas you can hear the back of the left side where the tire is of a noise like if the disk brake isnt tight enough as if its loose or something... The noise you hear is like a "Chic Chic Chic Chickda Chickda Chick....". The breaks still seem to work just fine but i'm getting worried about that noise and my brother in law says it seems to be the disk brake that it may need to be repaired but by the way it sounds its like the break is loose and something keeps flicking against the rim or something.. I would appriciate any advice you guys can give me as to whats wrong with my SUV.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean...do you mean you think that the pad is loose and flopping back and forth against the caliper and the rotor? If so, you may need to replace the retaining bracket on your pad, though I don't know anywhere you'd go to find that, other than the dealership, which, depending on the dealership, will probably try to sell you an entire brake assembly.

It could either be bad wheel bearings or bad parking brakes. Your parking brakes are inside of yoru rear disk/drum. When I replaced my parking brake shoes only one of the four even had material left. The other three were nothing but metal. The one with materail was completely cracked. It's possible that your shoes have disintigrated inside your rotor and are rattling around inside until they break up enough to fall out like mine did.
