Check. Bought a gauge today.

Also-
I will keep adding these as I think of them is you don;t mind-

Plug off the brake booster line, and recheck vacuum. The booster may be leaking.

And not to make you run in circles or anything, but a fuel pressure gauge installed while the symptom occurs might tell something.

Keep em coming, Turdle! I'll keep buying the test tools! :D

Anyway, after doing the compression test, I read the manual and saw how they said to do it. Remove all the plugs, block open the TB, and turn over.

I didn't do that. I just removed a spark plug, installed my gauge, started it up, and got the reading. So, how bad is that? My results:

125# 4--8 121#
129# 3--7 121#
121# 2--6 120#
130# 1--5 125#

Fairly consistant. The weird observation I made was the truck ran EXACTLY the same without the #2 plug in. I ran my household outlet electrical tester on the #2 wire and it is firing. So, I may swap out the plug and wire just for shiz and gurggles.

Its been running in the garage behind me for about 5 minutes with no symptoms. Hmmm.. could a bad connection haved caused that surge?

Still gonna tear off the upper intake though.

Vac is now about 12. I also removed the IAC spacer (at the beginning of this troubleshooting) and it now feels like it will do the stalling thing again. I did drive it up and down the road with no issues though. But 12inHg is awfully low. But it has been that way since the cam install.

So hopefully it's an intake leak. :(

Changed the plugs and wires and I was surprised at how easy this thing started and instantly had a smooth idle. But then within 10 seconds it did the deal. :( I thought I had it beat too.

So I tore off the upper intake. I'm on my way to get a new PCV valve, intake gasket, a small section of vac line to replace a breather tube I band-aided in 10 years ago.

What else should I look for or throw at it?

Look over everything associated with the vacuum. Check the fuel pressure regulator to be sure it holds vaccuum, brake booster-egr vacuum solenoid(regulator), PVC system, especially the rubber grommet the the pvc valve slides in to. On some v8 engines the pvc tuning is T'd underneath to make 2 sources of vacuum to the pvc valve.Check this out rel good for cracking.

Also out of curiosity shake the vacuum reservoir --see if it has filed with condensate ( water). It may not be very likely, however the lower intake manifold gasket could be leaking too ya know. They can be a pain in the asphinter to set well. If you do decide to attack it just remember to lay a 1/2" bead of ultra black permatex to the front and rear and seal areas. Seems like a 1/4" bead doesn't get it.

What else should I look for or throw at it?

When I did my upper intake gaskets, I cleaned the injectors and replaced their o-rings.

Jon has covered most everything. How clean is the IAC, when was it cleaned last, with the plunger held open?

That does also sound like a spark issue, or a rough cam idle due to the cam events.

How old is the DPFE, and do you have another to swap with it? The only engine issue I've had was a failing DPFE, and it didn't throw a code for over a year. My engine ran rough randomly with that issue, and it was after Winter that it finally started giving a code. My trusted Ford tech told me that the DPFE is sensitive to changes in the seasons, they often fail during or after Winter. Swap that out if you can, I bit the bullet and paid about $75 for one from Ford.

..Did you get it smogged yet or any updates on this?
