you need to add a bottle of the additive if you're not using synthetic gear oil as most gear synthetic gear oil will already meet the limited slip specs.

I recommend Mobil-1 synthetic

Gear oil...not engine oil! LOL

Ok we finally have a nice day without rain.
I decided to try and put the gears in and I can get one in place but when I spin it of course to add the second one the first wants to fall out.

Solution?

Have a great day peeps.

Try using the large center pin to hold one of the gears

Ok I got under there and played some more.

Here is the issue.

I can get one gear in place but it seems the spring is in the way of letting the pin go through. I assume this S spring has to come out and the axles must move out a 1/4 of an inch or so????

Yes I believe that S spring has to come out - which I think requires the axle shafts to come out a bit.

Well if the axle shafts are in the way, then of course first you need to remove the calipers, then slide the C-clips out (that sits against the two side spider gears), and then you can probably just get a needle nose vice grip and pull the spring out. As for putting the spring back in, thats the tricky part but play around with it (use eye wear in case the spring pops) with some vice grips, a screw/washer/nut setup (as a temporary clamp going through the spring), or whatever you have around the garage.

Has drums on rear.

I thought it was going to be a piece of cake.

Oh right drums -- remove the drums so you can pull the axle shafts out a bit.

In my 7.5 (when it had an LS) the shafts moved in and out just fine to remove the c-clip with the S spring installed. It looks like it would be very difficult (if not impossible) to install/remove the spring with the shafts in there.
