Hey all I'm new here and just installed a Kenwood HU in my 98 Explorer XLT with the Mach audio. I got the adapter for the radio but they only gave me the one connector for the power and speakers. I had to do some "power probing" to find the antennae power on the other connector. Log story short everything in my truck works except the speedo now. The code I get is P0500 which is the VSS, did I accidently blow a fuse or is it coincedental that the VSS went when I did the install? Also were would the fuse be for the speedo? I tried a bunch and they all seemed okay.

Thanx

You probably blew a fuse while probing around. I believe the ABS fuse includes the VSS. Check your manual for the location.

thanx for the reply I will check it and report back.

So i just checked all the fuses I could find in the engine bay and inside the driver side compartment Are there any hidden fuse panels? Where exactly is the VSS located? I bought a Chilton manual and it is the biggest piece of crap ever it doesn't say where it is all it shows is a speedo drive on the tail section of the trans which on my Exloder is a blocked out hole. I need Help!!

I'm still stuck in the same boat. Have been driving without a speedo for quite sometime. I have been kinda busy so i really haven't had a chance to really look into this. But, i have bought a new VSS which was the wrong part. I found the VSS (i think) in the rear end and unplugged it and then the trans started shifting funny, so i can assume that VSS is working properly. All my fuses seem to be okay. My cruise control doesn't work either. can someone give me some leads??? Has anyone disconnected their factory radio and drove around?? I'm wondering still if it has something to do with the radio install or if it's just a fuse/relay that went. Thanks in advance!

i've checked every fuse multiple times. Could there be a bad relay somewhere? Or is there another VSS that i can't find?

the spedo is electronic, maybe you messed up the gauge mechanix (i dont know what the word is, its the thing the needle is attached to) i had to repair mine because i put too much pressure on it when i was taking off the needle and broke one of the wires, maybe you shorted out somthing, causing the wire to break like a fuse before the actual fuse

i guess that's the next step, to completely rip apart the cluster and see what's going on. If the speedo didn't work shouldn't the cruise control still work? I've been thinking about that and is seems more like a bad sensor of some sort.

does anyone have a schematic of the factory radio connectors? my truck has the premium w/ rear seat controls

anybody lookin to buy a 6 disc cd changer for a ford explorer 04
