Hey, I just had a thought when i went outside and noticed our old f150 sitting in the lawn across the road. Its a '87 F150 Lariat, which does not run, has been sitting, and was only a farm beater anyway. I had this idea to take the windshield visor (which apparently is a somewhat uncommon adition to these) and cut it to fit the width of my explorer, rebuilt the center where i cut with fiberglass (which it is made of obviously) and attach it to my explorer. I think it might look pretty good if i can resize it and make the foberglass look okay, repaint, etc.

here is what i am talkign about, i dont have any pics of mine right now and it is dark out.

So, im mostly just looking for opinions, ideas, input on how to mount it, as some of the bolt holes might not line up correctly on the side, and if anyone else has done or seen this before, any thoughts or opinions are appreciated!
Thanks, Blue.

It might work out ok, with enough fiberglass anything is possible. The slope of the front of the roof might be very different between the F-150 and the Explorer though, and so you'd have to either do a lot of work to make it sit flush against the roof, or just have whatever gaps there are from the difference in curvature. Or you could just fuberglass it to the roof. Not the best idea in terms of ease of removal or being able to replace the windshield or fix leaks, but it's doable.

You might be better off hitting the salvage yard and seeing if there are any Explorers or Rangers with one though, or sell the visor off the F-150 (or the whole F-150) and buy one for the Explorer:

the f150 visor isnt in the best shape, it has minor cracks and the paint is terrible, which if i was using myself wouldnt be a problem as i would fix it and repaint it, but other people probably woulndt want a repaired one. also holy crap that ebay one is expencive! i will deffinitly have to look in the very few junkyards nearby for one. i dont think i have ever seen a 1st gen explorer with a sun visor though..

Slightly od thread but i noticed that some 1st gen explorer sports had the windshield visors, how rare are these? is it possible or likely i could find one in a junkyard?
