Instrument Cluster Question

I just bought a 99 Eddie Bauer edition 190k. I replaced the battery and the shift tube bushings.. before starting the vehicle I noticed the gas gauge was sitting at about an 1/8 of a tank and upon starting the vehicle the rpm gauge shot to 4k but the idle seems to be normal. Shut her down, pulled the fuse panel off and replaced all appropriate fuses and still the same issue. I've been considering removing and cleaning the throttle body, iac, and tps but before I went into that I wanted to know if there was an alternative way to possibly find and fix the issue. I'm a huge greenhorn. Thanks in advance.

So the RPM gauge reads high, but it’s idling/driving as it should? At 4K the truck would really move with no throttle.

@Mbrooks420 agreed, i had that happen before, the truck was perfectly fine, i just needed to clean off some connectors...

I haven't drove it yet, I'm still waiting for a few parts to come in (rotors,pads,shocks) I guess I'll either have to see if she's okay to take down the road a bit or just wait for those parts and check her out then.

@Mbrooks420 agreed, i had that happen before, the truck was perfectly fine, i just needed to clean off some connectors...

She's a dirty girl lol the previous owner had it sitting awhile before I got it so I'm sure it wouldn't hurt either way

@Trlane01 also, you could just start it when its in place... 4k sounds really loud in comparison to idle... you should be able to tell just by starting it..

Mine does this every once in a while. Probably fuel injectors getting dirty and need cleaned.
