Instrument Cluster question

Well, the extended warranty is up and I need to replace the instrument cluster because the little info screen has gone dim and I can hardley see the temp reading or the mileage. I can swap it out myself no problem, my question is if the mileage info is stored in the vehicle computer or in the instrument cluster? 2002 XLT.

I believe it is stored in the cluster, and the mileage would need to be programed into the new cluster at the dealership.

Hmmm, I doubt I'll get a dealer to just reprogram the cluster without doing the entire job . I just hate to spend all that money when I know I can do it myself.

Like I said though, I am not 100% sure on it. I would recommend calling the dealer and asking.

Otherwise, you could just give-er-a-try anyway and see what happens
