Intake, Best Exhaust?

First off let me state that I am a complete novice. I recently purchased (2 weeks ago) a 2001 Explorer Sport (v6 4.0L SOHC)... And am looking for some porformance boost... The first two things I would like to do is get:

1. New Air Intake
2. New Exhaust System

For the Air Intake I have been looking @ the True-Rev Sport Inudction Kit??? Is this the best?? Any help would be appreciated...

And for the exhaust I'm looking @ flowmaster and Gibson... Is Gibson better?? I am looking for an exhaust with some sound to it... I want a tough deep sound but not too loud... I dont want a fake sounding system (like its the pipe making the sound) Of course performance also matters too... THANKS SO MUCH! Dead Link Removed

The more I have research... I cant find a cat-back for a 2001??? Do you think the 2000's will work?? Has anyone heard the "Delta 50" series from Flowmaster?? How does it sound?? Which is better the Flowmaster 50 or 50 delta??

Oh yes one more question.. Have a new Ford I have a standard 3 year war. on it... Does changing the Air Intake or Exhaust void any other warrienties other than the parts I am replacing?? Does it void any engine war.???

Ok I just talked to Flowmaster... They dont offer a "Cat-Back" system for anything after a 96' ... So... What do I do??? Just get the muffler?? But then there would be no increase in performace?? ... Hmmm... Help please??

Kevin-You can buy an aftermarket muffler like a Flowmaster and have a local exhaust shop do the pipes for you. That's what I did with my '91XLT. I bought a Ultra-flo stainless straight through muffler and had a local shop install it for me with all new pipes from the cat back. I also replaced my cat with a Dynomax Super Converter and had the shop move the cat futher back since '91s have problems with heat from the cat destroying the RA bushing on the passenger's side. The shop charged me $110 for the pipes and installing the muffler and cat. You might want to look at going to a larger inlet and outlet on the muffler than your current pipes. The shops should be able to progressivly increase the size of the pipes thus giving you good exhaust system should decide to do headers later on.

Also does any of this affect the explorer's warranty??

You'll need to do a little research on how much sound you want. There are 3 basic types of mufflers.

Loudest is the single pass perf tube like the Borla. Next is the multi chamber like the Flowmaster (2 or 3 chambers, 3 being the quietest of the 2). The quietest of the muffler designs is the multi pass perf tube like the Dynomax.

Any of the free flowing mufflers will be louder than stock. Me personally, I'm opting for the Dynomax.
