First, I don't think the issue I'm having is coming from the X3, but here's the deal...

I bought my 07 Sport Trac used last year, I've recently tuned it with an X3 with a tune by Torrie @ Fastpartsnetwork.com. The tune is definitely noticeable, as my truck feels punchy and responsive, but a day or two later I notice the truck is back to being a little sluggish. I plug in the X3 and verify the 93 Performance tune is still loaded and it is. I reload it anyway and the truck is back to being punchy and fun for another day or two.

So here's my thought: maybe the previous owner chipped it, and perhaps the chip is overriding the custom tune, or remapping the fuel curve.

So my question is, how would I know or find out if a chip was hard wired into the truck? Where would I look?

Or does anyone have any other ideas as to why my truck might be dumbing down the tune over the course of a day or two?

Btw, it's not in my head; lol. It's definately a very noticeable difference.

Thanks,

Rick

I should be a little more specific about the "chip", I'm talking about those cheap resistors people sell on ebay that promise a bunch of nonsense. I don't know if something like that would cause my issue, but I figure its worth a look.

Doubt your ST would run properly with another "piggybacked" chip.

Have you physically checked the ECM for a chip or contacted Torrie?

I haven't checked the ECM, and Torrie is already working on another issue (the SCT X3 isn't recognizing my TCM so he can't write my transmission tune) so I figured I'd ask for some ideas around the forums.

It's weird, like the tune just gets remapped back to stock settings. I didn't notice any mods to the truck when I bought it, so the likelyhood someone installed a real chip is pretty slim, but it wouldn't surprise me to find one of those EBay "chips" somewhere under the hood... Don't know what to look for though.

Just to be sure on the ECM I'll take a look.

If I data logged it right after loading the tune, and then a couple days later do you think it would show if perameters had changed? I guess that would be the easiest way to check things out.

I'm not an expert on this by any means but, are you past due for an oil change?

Just to update, I took my truck to Ford and had them reprogram the PCM/TCM instead of trying to figure out if it was flashed with another tuner before I bought it. Problem solved. Now my SCT tuner and tune from Torrie @ fastpartsnetwork is working great.

What's puzzling is your truck ran great the first two days after you flashed it.

Always thought the X3 overrides the existing tune and stores it in the device.
