Interior lights aren't working

Ok, I have a problem. When I open the door, my side lights on the doors come on, and the rear hatch light comes on, but the overhead light up front wont come on. I checked the bulb, it seems fine. If you turn on the 2 spotlights while the door is open they dont work, but if you turn one on while its closed it works, but if you turn on both they are really dim.. whats going on... i checked a lot of fuses they all seemed fine.. help!

Sounds like you have a poor or coroded connection probablely in the dome light. Drop the whole unit and clean all the connections. Hope this helps.

I took the thing off, and I can't see anything coroded or anything... ahh It would be tight for these to just work.
I took the whole assembly off to the metal piece and it all looked fine, and I put it back on, but I don't know how to look further than that, my headliner is already struggling a little bit, and I dont want to mess it up realyl bad...

All thats left is a bad connection further down stream so to speak. If you got a 12v tester see if there is juice on the light and if so then the earth conn is bad if not the the juice side is bad. All you can do is trace the wire and keep testing (assuming that you've checked all the fuses and the lamp is ok) All the best.

PS it's the earth thats switched on/off when you open the door.

could i make a new ground then? also, sometimes the speaker will go off on the left, and its not the speaker b/c it did it before and after i put new ones in today...

Obviously you have some bad connections somewhere in the loom and it is a matter of finding them. I would not recomend permanently fitting a new ground wire but you could use a temp ground for testing purposes. I would check any multiplugs in and around the dimmer and door lock switch. Hope this helps.

I have a '94 XLT, and had the same problem with the overhead lights. In mine the map lights get their electricity from a metal plate, and if the screws aren't in the correct holes none of the lights will come on. But it may be different than yours ... As for the speaker, I also had that problem. I had put in a new CD Player and didn't have the time to solder the connections, after I soldered them all the speakers worked fine, so it sounds like the connection to your Receiver harness isn't good enough, just check and make sure all the wires are thoroughly connected.
