Hey everyone,

So I switched out my factory fog lights for some cheap eBay ones that looked cool. Well my cell phone is brighter than them so I ended up hating them. But I noticed they stopped working. The fog light indicator on the light switch indicates they are on (by lighting up yellow) but the fog lights themselves don't turn on. I took them out and put the factory ones back in..no light.

I found the relay for the fog lights under the hood. Relay #50 . I pulled it out and put a new one in...no light. I took the relay out, put my volt meter in where the relay goes turned on the switch for the lights and the meter read 11.9. So its getting power to the relay, but its not going to the lights. I got down under the truck, flipped on the fog light switch, stuck the volt meter prongs in the actual fog light wiring harness itself, and it read 0. So there is no power whatsoever going to the fog lights but theres full power going to the relay. Am I missing something here? Is there another fuse somewhere I'm missing? Hopefully someone knows! Thanks guys

Michael

Does the relay "click" when you switch the fog lights on? You may need a helper to turn the switch on and off while you feel the relay.

Yes it does click when the switch is turned on. Does that mean bad relay??

Click is good it means its operating correctly.(similarly the ticking you hear from the turn signal is the clicking of the relay..its loud enough to be heard in the car). My only idea is have you checked to see if the wires from the fuse box to the fog lights themselves has gotten cut or nicked in any way?

Edit I've checked my manual it states that location 50 is the relay itself. and location 16 is the headlight/fog light switch and 44 is the fog lights themselves.

Yes. Now you need to check the wiring from relay to the lights. You have eliminated all switches-switch wiring.

My guess is the aftermarket ebay lights drew excessive current and overheated the wiring somewhere. First place to look is for evidence of heat damage where the relay plugs into the power distribution box.

Also check the contact area of the fuse.

There may be a fusible link in the wiring between the lights and the relay. They generally suck to find.

44 is the relay under the hood? Or 44 is a fuse in the cab under sterring column? Thanks for the reply!

Thank you everyone for the response! When I get off work I'll look at it more. I hope the wire hasn't melted or struck metal somewhere on the car shorting it out. I will test the fuses and check the wiring. Thank you all

Check your PM. I have sent the troubleshooting steps from my shop manual.

Good luck getting it sorted. :D:thumbsup:

Please keep us posted as feedback helps others reading this post looking for a fix to the same or similar issue!

Finally got them working!! Turns out it was fuse #44 . 15amp under the hood. It was popped big time. Thank you very much everyone for the quick replies! Thank you BigRondo for the shop manual and CollegeStudent for the knowledge as well as everyone else

Thanks
Michael

Happy we could help. For future reference you can get an electronic copy of the manual from one of the stickies. It helps when trying to find information. (the find function works better)

Nice job on the fix. Glad to help out!
