Once in a while my trans will slip when I floor it. Rev limiter kicks in, the other times it doesn't. When it does slip, the only other problem is the gear will stick for a second but not all the time. Otherwise it shifts great. Pan was dropped, fluid and filter change, along with the valve body being tightend down.

Might be getting to be rebuild time... but first...

There are 3 sets of clutch disks inside that tranny and also 3 bands that apply them. I would start by getting hold of a tranny manual and adjusting the bands. They may be worn enough so that they are not grabbing good enough. If so, it is only a matter of time before a rebuild is needed, but it may go for a while first.

Inside each of the clutch disk packs, there is also a piston that has a seal - it could be sticking in one of them.

Another issue could be a frozen overdrive sprag (from overheating) or it could just be the hebe-jebe's... It's a Ford auto tranny after all... ;)

How would I go about adjusting them, I'm still learning the Ford trannys and stuff. I have a warrenty but I'm afraid their not going to get the problem totally due the truck still shifting fine otherwise.

2 of the 3 bands on the Ford trannys are extenally adjustable (the 3rd is not - it is internal - and if it is slipping or broken, a rebuild is needed). There is a bolt with a screw sticking out on the side of the tranny in two places. What you do is loosen the large bolt head, torque the screw to a set figure (by the Ford transmission manual) and then re-tighten the bolt that holds it in place.

It is rather easy to do, but you do need to have the correct torque settings for your particular transmission and a good inch-pound torque wrench with a dial guage so that you can accurately set the bands.

Hope this helps.

And that could cure my "passing gear" slippage? Anywhere I could look up those settings on line? I could prob find a good wrech somewhere.

i have the settings which tranny do you have the 4r55e or the 5r55e?

According to the site here, I have the OHV 4.0 with the 5r55e

ok lossen the band screws till they are loose but not too loose just enough to turn by hand the nut is a 19mm holding the nut with 19mm wrench tighten the screw to 10 ft lbs then back off 2 1/2 turns for the intermediate band and 2 turns for the overdrive band(front screw) and tighten nut to35-45ft lbs DO NOT UNSCREW THEM ALL THE WAY 3 TO 4 TURNS IS FINE

Let me add to what cjbarron said!

If you unscrew the screws that adjust the bands too far, they will no longer be engaged into the hole provided for them on the band, and you will have to disasemble your transmission to get it to work! The band will snap off of the adjustment screw and you cannot get it back in the right position from outside the tranny.

The porcedure is safe enough - just don't back the screws out too far.

Only turn the screws enough to loosen them for re-torq and you will be fine.

By the way - this may or may not actually fix your slippage in overdrive problem - but it is a free try in any case.
