He guys I got a 92 ex automatic and when I go to put it in gear sometimes it will go in and sometimes not go in. I have heard that it could be the cable and the harmonic balance. I was just wanting to get everyones opinon on this. Thanks for the help

1st thing I would check is fluid level (warmed up, level, transmission in P).

It is at the full mark.

Does it make a difference what position the selector is in (OD, D, 2, 1)?

Slow initial engagement can be caused by several things:
-improper fluid level or contaminated fluid
-damaged or improperly adjusted manual linkage (selector cable)
-improper band/clutch application
-low main control pressure

It does this in all gears ( R, OD, D, 2, 1). Just started doing this, put it in gear and it will engage but sometimes give it gas it it will go but while you are driving it, it will red line the rpm's

The first thing to check is the fluid level, and you did that.

If the fluid is burnt smelling or discolored or you see particles in the fluid, it could be that the fluid is contaminated and needs to be flushed.

The third thing to check is the manual linkage, which can be done by disconnecting the cable from the transmission and shifting it by hand (use a partner to stand on the brakes and have the e-brake applied when you shift it into drive with you underneath...driver's side bottom contol cable). It can be disconnected by popping it off with a scewdriver. You can feel the stops with your hand (start in P and count the detents....P,R,OD,D,2,1). This makes sure that the column shifter and cable isn't selecting a position that is in between gears or slightly out one way or another.

The next thing to check is the control pressure. You need a gauge to do this check. The cheapest I've found is about $30. If the control pressure is low, either you have a bad pump or possibly a stuck regulator/booster valve. This pressure check lets you know for sure. When you have this pressure guage hooked up you have to do a stall test to get the pressure readings.

The next step would be to remove the valve body and clean it. This would be the first time that a mandatory fluid drain/refill would be required.

What gear does it redline at...which gear is slipping and what position is the shifter in?

Everytime that it has been redlining I have been driving on the highway. With it in OD. Where is the cable going into the trans at? Cause I think I want to say that it is on the drivers side? How would I do a stall test? Thanks for the help

Driver's side, the bottom cable (the top one is the kickdown cable, don't mess with it).

Is it in 4th gear when it slips and redlines (cruising along and it starts slipping), or when you are in 4th gear and then step on the gas hard enough to drop down into 3rd gear (passing gear)?

You can do a stall test now and note if something is slipping, but I have a feeling the results won't reveal what is happening (although I do have a hunch).
Look at post #34 for instructions on a stall test:

I think you might be having a problem with your 3-4 shift solenoid, but I can't say until you answer the question about when it is slipping (3rd or 4th gear). If it is the solenoid, it must be fixed ASAP (for small $) or you are looking at a full rebuild/replacement (big $$$).

Yes it is in 4th when I am driving it. But it just starts to redline w\o giving gas (to pass). But I do know that when I had bought it, it did redline 1 time on the way home, from trying to pass somebody. I thought it was just a flook.

Ok I ahve diconnected the shifter cable and manually shifted the gears. I have R, D, 2, and 1 do not have O.D. What could this be?
