I know the C6s are huge compared to other trannies. You may either need a body lift or some floor "modifications" to fit it. I may be going with a C4 in the near future.

Ya they are big as hell, but now with the 3" bl i have there is all kinds of room under there now, this one has a floor shifter and everything , all for $50, i want to stay with an automatic tranny and for that price i want to make it fit lol, thanks Alac

Then you can probably do it :)

The tcase will be moved back though, so you'll need new driveshafts and will need to either move the tranny crossmember back or make another crossmember.

A lot stronger than the C4. If you can fit it in, make the mounts to hold it in place, and get new driveshafts made, I would do it.

It is a 3-speed with no OD, just like the C4 and C5 incase you didn't know.

I would also go ahead and have it rebuilt before you install it.

yes i do plan on haveing it rebuilt, and the drive shafts too, im gonna stay with the 8.8 just gonna put the alloy axles for strength, if i can scrape the dough to get the atlas II then that is gonna be added too with the 302, im gonna be in arizona soon so old blue will be down for a while while getting hooked up. thanks cory

It has to be a "small-block" C6!

MOST of the C6 trannies you will come across are for a Big-Block (FE Series) Ford V8. They MAKE one for a small-block (fits 289/320/351W/351/C) but it is considerably rarer than the big-block version. Since the bellhousing is an integral part of the case, you CANNOT use a big-block C6 on a 302, you MUST use the small-block model.

That is correct. Make sure it came behind a small block.

Also, the 351C was a big block.

Madmike, let me know when you want to go Atlas 2. I sell them now.

sweet i will definately check that out, so if the one i have is for a big block would the stroker fit in my x???? or do you think advanced adapters would sell something to make it fit up to a 302? thanks guys

If your going to try and fit a C-6 in your Xplorer......... You might as well use an E40D. descendant of C-6. Electronic version with Overdrive.

351 Cleveland is a Small Block

The 351 Cleveland is a "small-block" engine. The rear face of the block is the same as the 289/302 and 351W.

The 351"M", or "Modified" is a unique engine, sharing a rear face of block bolt pattern with the 400 "M" engine. The "Modified" family of engines usually came with an FMX transmission. The trans from a 351M/400M will not fit any other small-block Ford engine.

The 351 Cleveland is the most likely engine in the Ford family to have a small-block C6 behind it. Many mid-seventies Mustangs and Torinos could have one.

Well, the reason he would put the C-6 in is because he can get it for $50. I doubt he can get a E40D for $50.

$50 and can rebuild for under $150

even if its a big block C6, get it. you could turn around and sell it and make money off of it. or, you could look for a 460 to swap instead of a 5.0......:D
