Is my Explorer no longer safe to drive? *Rust*

Is the Explorer back to pizza deliveries? Man, I'm glad to live on the west coast. That said, I say if you can try to give it Fluid Film or whatever floats your boat and keep driving it. Just be careful & don't go bombing around IMO.

Thanks. I picked some fluid film today and applied it on the passenger side. Boy it stinks but I'll accept it. Seems like a really good product that should last through winters here.
The smell goes away quickly. You can use Fluid Film on critical areas like brake lines, bolts, suspension components, etc. to make these items last longer, and remain safer, in the future. Keep it off your brake pads.

dude, you really think about safety driving car that 25 years old?:D

lol, I drive around with my airbag and abs lights on 😂

The fact that this gen is body on frame makes a pretty big difference. Both my 95 (Gen 2) and 08 (Gen 4) have frames and both with rocker rust. With well over 200K miles on each (my 95 has similar rust as yours), I would tend to use the maxim: When in doubt, cut it out. So long as your frame and the support areas of the body on them are solid, a cutoff grinder and some rust preventative, are probably the best, so far as the value of the vehicle. I have toyed with the idea of rocker covers, but realistically, they are old work trucks and unless the sight of a few missing rockers or exposed rust bothers you, it is probably not worth a complete rocker replacement. Lift it, cut it and drive the hell out of it.
