Is the Explorer better?

I buyed the explorer cause i like it and because my family and I always have owned Ford, suv's, E250's, and big work trucks.Just was curious bout explorer's skills by having an engine so famous With the GT40P.Not for other reason. But sometimes there is an idiot in a crappy car thinking that they are kings of streets and I would like to give them a lesson . Lol. :D

the 350z is also a v6 and a 2 door sports coupe.. you should lose that race.. not sure how you kept up with him..

Well lets see why I kept up with him.
99 Explorer sport with a v8 swap and a 4406 tcase in 2wd
My v8 is kind of low miles 85000
custom tune 91 octane
4.10 gears
no cats
duel exhaust
cold air intake
I just rebuilt my rear diff with carbon fiber clutch pack.
i just did a seam foam treatment less then a week ago
new plugs a few days be for the race.

I don't know may be he just sucks at driving stick but I dought that.

The hyundai Genesis, is a bad little machine... you would lose badly. I have the 5.0 2wd, and CAI, and a couple other little goodies. for a big SUV it is quite quick. But short of gutting it, and adding big block power. accept it for what it is. a SUV, not a RACE CAR.

Explorer is a great thing. I went to Vegas with my friends just to spend a weekend away from busy life. We really had fun as we got Up to 50% off on hotel deals Expedia coupon and made booking online and it really save us time and money. This trip was a fun and two great nights in Vegas was full of bear and some other delicate stuff. We came back fresh and our Explorer was in tact and faithful.

Just one comment on the Race with an Explorer and a VW. It had to be the 2.0 which is not branded on the car. It is the slowest of all VW engines. If it was the VW 1.8 Turbo you would only see his tail lights. Even my TDI 90 HP Diesel with better injectors will beat the 2.0.

My bad, i thought your post was the OP with a stock explorer.. yours is far from stock and i can see how you would keep up with the 350z...
on a side note what kind of exhaust are you running? im planning to cut out my cats and run duals as well but cant decide how big do go 2.5inch, 2 in 2 out muffler? 3 inch tail pipe?

I am catless running 2.5 inch in to a 2 in 2 out muffler that dumps right in front of the rear axle.

so, guys which you think should be the first modification that I do to improve power??

Rebuild it so it doesn't have to deal with the 200,000 mile handicap.

I still don't believe you could beat a 350z with a driver who isn't completely inept.

A 350z makes between 285-300 hp stock and weighs around 3200 lb. An explorer sport stock weighs 3700 lbs with the OHV engine, a 5-speed manual, and 2WD. Your V8 sport with a transfer case and front axle is probably closer to 3900 lbs. IMO you would have to be pushing over 350 hp to keep up especially since you are also down a gear.

Granted you have a good amount of torque but still, without extensive upgrades, I don't see it happening.

Well I never said I beat him. I said I kept up with him to 60 then by 80 he passed me. He also had a 6 speed so hes 2 gears up on me. Also with his being the Fairlady Z model it weight is closer to 3600 lb. Now horse power is not every thing. The z has 306 hp and 268 tq. Now a stock explorer 5.0 v8 has 210 hp and 280 tq. Now with my mods i am closer to 240 hp and about 310 tq. So as much as you don't think it could happen it can.
