Is this vibration normal?

My 2012 explorer awd, the same thing, it wobble when accelerate. Now I'm planning to trade it in, it's uncomfortable especially when you are city driving.

Faint Vibration in steering wheel

Hey Everyone! I have a 2013 XLT with about 24k on it. I've noticed that I get an ever so slight vibration from the steering wheel (its done this ever since we bought it). I can also feel it in the gas pedal (isn't this car fly by wire?). It seems to be rpm/engine load dependent. While i'm accelerating to highway speeds I'll notice it, but when I level out at 55-60 it goes away for the most part. Is this just a characteristic of this vehicle? My first thought was power steering fluid but that's not really an option now :) It definitely doesn't feel anything like a balance problem (it was just balanced/rotated today with no change). Anyone else notice this or have an idea what it could be? I might bring this up with the dealer but I don't know if i'm being ultra picky. My wife really doesn't seem to notice it.

Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

Have someone else drive it, don't tell them your suspicion, and after your drive, see what they think.

I know you mentioned you had a tire balance but I had similar issue before so I had the tires dynamically balanced again and the issue went away.

Bad balancer or weight fell off possibly.

Since you're concerned, orangesoda123, I'd recommend going ahead and having your dealership check this out. Be sure to come back and post what you find out; I'll be here if you need any additional help.

So I am new here and my wife and I have had our 2013 Explorer limited for about 4 months now. We have been to the dealership twice and are heading back for round 3 next week for the vibration issue many have posted about. The dealer originally turned all 4 rotors which didn't solve the issue but made the brakes very harsh ( we are waiting for them to fix this now). The second time the Service Manager called and told me my wife and I have been setting the four wheel drive setting into "Sand mode" when we drive around and that was our issue! Seeing as how the service manager of a Ford dealership has absolutely no idea how the vehicles he is "Servicing", we will no longer be dealing with him but another technician.

Has anyone actually resolved this issue? We have the 20" wheels and I am in no way paying to replace them if that is what they end up telling me. Have been a ford guy for a long time and this is crazy. The thing that kills me is I own a 2011 SHO with 20" wheels and that has ZERO vibration!

Welcome to the Forum saldivo2.:wavey:
Unless you had vibrations when applying the brakes, I don't know why they turned the rotors. Some 20" tires will 'flat spot' if left sitting for a long period but the vibration caused by that will usually resolve itself after 5 minutes at the most. It was even mentioned in the Owner's Guide at one time. Good luck.

I think what you guys are feeling is better described as a wobble. I had the same problem with my 2011 and it's fixed. It would feel like the front end was wobbling under normal to light accel and went away after about 20 mph. The dealer replaced both front cv axles and the wobble in the front end and accelerator pedal went completely away. It's been 25000 miles and has not returned.

Mine is between 55 and up and gets better as you approach 75. Not that it can't be the CV's as my father had a similar issue in his escape and that's what it turned out to be. I am making another appointment for next week so hopefully I will have more. If not I will be going to another Ford dealer as the closest one to me is known to have an aweful service department. Can't fix the issue in the book time then the customer is wrong.

My 2013 Limited AWD has this wobble. The vehicle shakes under light acceleration right about 15-18 mph. It's a slow vibration, maybe 10 cycles per second. I feel it in the floor and my right leg. I'm going to get my dealer to check it out before warranty expires.

Wasn't there an issue starting in 2013 with the driveshaft causing a vibration or wobble condition on some vehicles?

Update on my issue if interested. Dealer has had the car for 2 days and called and said there is an updated bearing and brackt assembly that should fix the issue. Not sure which bearing or bracket but he did say close to the transmission. Hopefully it does fix it and if so I will post what was exactly replaced.

Thanks for the update, saldivo2! I'll look forward to seeing your next post; if you need any assistance, just let me know.

Hi Crystal, looks like I could use your help! Picked up the explorer today got on the highway and had to immediately head back to the dealer. They replaced the passenger side axle shaft, bearing and bracket and told me the vibration was gone which is exactly how I left it unchanged for the better or worse. They now have the car again, for the 4th time with no resolution.

Crystal, how can you help?

saldivo2, see my post 167 on this page. Keep in mind the Ford reps are not here on weekends.

Took it to a dealer and they kept it for two days. First they thought it was a tire problem, but when they took off all tires and tested each tire, they knew it was something different. They finally concluded that it was a computer that was attempting to adjust each wheel for all wheel drive. They concluded this after driving many Explorers, and each had a vibration when accelerating slowly through 10-15 mph.
