Can the D44 out of the Jeep Rubicon be used as the candidate for a SAS? I know the Jeep guys use the 8.8 rear's out of the Explorer's because the want rear disc brakes and the wheel pattern is the same. I figured if the width between the Jeep and the Explorer is pretty close, then we might be able to utilize the Rubicon's D44 in the front of the Explorer. Plus it already has an air locker built in!!!

I think if you look through Jefe's SAS thread you will find more info on it. But I think the Rubicon 44 is closer to a D30. That, and it seems like they're very expensive comapred to a real d44.

Thanks, I found Jefe's thread and am reading it top to bottom.

the rubicon 44 is a nice upgrade from the d30, but they are hard to buy, very expensive, and use d30 outers aka unitbearings

gears for the Rcon's front axle is also a little more expensive than normal d44.

i belive the D44 is like 4 grand just for the axle(new).
