Well I just finished the system. It consists of A sony explod HU. Lightning audio battery, Memphis 1000d amp and 2 memephis High Power 15" subs.

The problem im having is when I turn the radio up like 3/4 of the way the subs will cut out for a quick second then come back on the it will do the same thing and it will keep on doing it. I believe the box I have is the wrong size for the subs but I just wanted more input before i go and build a new box.

Thanks for the help
Mike

Check your ground.

i SECOND THAT, SOUNDS LIKE A LOOSE CONNECTION EITHER AT THE GROUND OR THE SPEAKER WIRES TOI THE SUBS

Is the amp clipping on and off? Does the amp lose power when this occurs?

MY rockford hx2's do the same thing, and they guys from Car toys told me that its the internals of the speaker preventing it from melting its voice coil, also i would adjust your frq lvl on your amp so it only picks up the proper frq for the subs, look for the freq response on the box or paperwork.

That does not sound good or right. Did you check the subs wire in the box they may be coming loose like 410 said. Also does your amp have a protection light? When this happens go and check to see if light is on. Chances are its a loose power wire, ground, speaker wire. It would not cut in and out like that if it were going into protection it would stay there. Why do you think its the box?

i agee with Yng_pnk i have a 200watt clarion amp that cuts out whenever the bass levels get too high. i have a 1000watt/500rms sub... i kno it shouldn't do that. but hmm i just keep my bass lvls low enough to prevent it from cutting out but high enough to get that bump i'm looking for.

oh ya off the topic... can anyone tell me anything about volfenhang amplifiers? they good or no? i'd go mtx or lighting audio.. but i'm pushed for cash at the moment so i gotta go generic

Sounds like the amp is clipping. I think you need to lower the gain a bit on the amp. It's getting too much current, and the protection circuit is cutting power. You should be able to adjust it.

Are the subs single or dual voice coils. 4 or 8 ohm. Where is the gain of the amp set. It sound like the amp may be seeing the wrong impedance.

wow first off thanks for all the responces. here is the new deal. The amp was flickering between protection mode and normal mode. I unplugged the speakers from the amp and turned the radio up. The amp didn't flicker into protection mode. That means its gotta be the subs right? The amp is stable at 1ohm. The gain on the amp is only half way up (I turned it all the way down and it still did the same thing). I have 2 15" dvc subs. I took all 4 + and put them together and ran a wire from that to the amp. Did the same thing with the - side. I think that I might have just put a + where a - should be and visa versa. If I did that does any one know if that could be the problem.
Also I noticed someone on the board had the same amp. Could you please tell me what the amps of the two fuses are?

Thanks for all the help guys.

Yeah, double check your wiring. You may have the impedence too low. Search for parallel/series wiring on the net. I'm sure you'll find clear pictures of the proper wiring.

I had the same system before same amp subs and battery and I wired everything this time the same way I did before. I might have just rushed this time and conncected one of the wires back wards. I will let everyone know today. Thanks for the help.

install problem

sounds like either your impedance is too low or you have a blown sub... double check the impedance of each sub and your wiring. you may want to check out www.the12volt.com and see if anything there can help you out.

sounds like the voltage is dropping too low. i would get a voltmeter and test it out. sounds like its dropping below 10 or so, maybe just for the hard hits, but enough to drop it for a second.

try checking the battery (how old?) and buying a capacitor. then if it still does it, take the amp back, its screwed up.

well thanks for all the help guys I tried everything and nothing worked. So I took the amp down to a friend of mine at the stereo shop, come to find out the amp is no good.
